Go to court – Nana Addo on destruction of mining equipment

President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The President, Nana Addo- Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has urged the new Deputy Ministers to work to justify their selections.

Speaking at the swearing-in of the Deputy Ministers of State, the President stated that they have to justify themselves as there are people who also possess the same qualities who were not selected.

“Nonetheless, you have to justify your selection and especially you should know there are many of your peers in the house who have not been selected despite having similar claims of competence as yourself.”

Akufo-Addo

He stated that he was pleased that he has been able to attain the goal of swearing them in before the end of this year. He expressed gratitude to the Speaker and Members of Parliament for their cooperation in this undertaking.

“I congratulate each and every one of you on your appointments. The wide acceptance of your nomination by the Ghanaian people and the nature of your individual performance during Parliament’s approval process are for me indications that the confidence that I repose in you is not misplaced.

“Your appointments have come to the critical moment in the history of our country. Government has since last year been on the quest to steer our nation out of a pandemic that has caused unimaginable damage to lives, livelihoods and businesses across the world with Ghana not being left out.”

Ghana lost Ghc100 billion

He said globally,;the economy was in recession last year and even though Ghana was one of the few countries that recorded positive economic growth last year, it has not been spared the impact of COVID-19.

“We have lost GHC100 billion Ghana Cares Obaatampa project to respond to it,;to revitalize and develop the economy.”

Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo posited that the objectives of the project demand that all the deputy ministers bring their “A-game to the table” to prosecute it.

The President further urged the Deputy Ministers to work sincerely with their ministers. He explained that,;it is the best guarantee to ensure success of the ministry and the collective success of the country.

He also asked the deputy ministers to be loyal to their ministers in their line of work. Also

“Your success in this endeavor will be a consequence of three things,;first it’s the spirit of loyalty you exhibit to your ministers.

“Loyalty to the minister is the fundamental premise to the success of your work. I will not countenance any acts of disloyalty or subversion of your minister. For I will take such acts as disloyalty to the country and;by inference disloyalty to the state and the party.”

Akufo-Addo

He also indicated that the quality of the integrity of their work will matter at all times. He also asked them to remain above reproach in all their public dealing.

“You have to remember that the solemn commitment of we in the NPP have made collectively and individually… to serve the Ghanaian people competently. We have a call to this public appointment to provide public service and not our personal gain.”
