General Secretary of NDC defends Koku Anyidoho’s expulsion from the party

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has disclosed that the Electoral Commission’s recent comment on the alleged printing of one million ballot papers suggests their complicity in the matter.

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia, has defended the decision by the party to expel its former Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho.

Describing his action as misconduct and anti-party behaviour, Mr Nketia explained that Mr Anyidoho failed to honour invitations from the party to appear before its disciplinary committee.

His comments follow the statement issued by the party’s disciplinary committee which found him guilty of the above-mentioned act.

“So in this particular instance, the report was made and Koku’s conduct was referred to the disciplinary committee. We all thought he will avail himself the opportunity of being heard.

“As the report indicates, all attempts to get him to the issues that have been raised failed because he is consistently evaded service, even service through courier to which we have the receipt. The response we had was that he actually refused to take delivery of the letter for stated reasons”.

Additionally, the NDC’s General Secretary explained that “in some cases, he says for security reasons, in another case he says he’s not expecting any letter from us, so, he will not take the letter.

“So I think that when you read the disciplinary Committee’s report, they concluded that having given him close to one year to avail himself for the process, the committee concluded the report and recommended”.

Koku Anyidoho’s expulsion from the party

In a letter dated July 27, 2021, it detailed the expulsion of Mr Anyidoho from the party. The party’s decision to expel him follows recommendations made to the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) from the National Disciplinary Committee on the case of misconduct and anti-party behaviour brought against him.

“The Committee’s report found you guilty of the said allegations of misconduct and anti-party behaviour and recommended your outright expulsion from the Party.

“You are, therefore, by the decision of FEC expelled from the National Democratic Congress and for that matter, you are no more recognized as a member of the Party and cannot carry yourself as such”.

Furthermore, the former deputy General Secretary has been tasked to return any party property that may be in his custody.

Similarly, he has been requested to equally forfeit any money, dues or subscription fees that he has made to the party.

Suspension of the former Deputy General Secretary

On February 8, 2021, the NDC suspended Koku Anyidoho from the party with immediate effect.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, explained that the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) considered two separate petitions from two members.

Following this, he stated that the two petitioners lodged an official complaint against his former deputy “which is viewed in breach of the party’s disciplinary code for its members as contained in the NDC constitution.”

He further noted that upon deliberation, they took a decision in accordance with Articles 46(1), 46(6) and 46(8) (b) of the party’s constitution.

In one of the petitions, the Bono Regional Deputy Communication Officer cited Mr Anyidoho’s “ill-will speeches accentuated by malice and calculated to subject the party to public ridicule”.

It also highlighted some public statements by Mr Anyidoho which the petitioner deem damaging to the NDC.
