Ghanaians must wake up with open eyes, Prez Akufo-Addo Endorses Criminality- Martin Amidu

Martin-Amidu and President Akufo Addo

Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor and also a former Attorney General, in his latest epistle, has revealed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo endorsed the criminal Sputnik V deal and thus, called on Ghanaians to wake up with their eyes opened. Mr Amidu was reacting to the Sputnik deal in his article titled ‘Do not be like Thomas whose eyes could not see; Akufo-Addo’s Sputnik V, Agyapa and other affairs’.

The Former Attorney General called on all Ghanaians to read between the lines in analysing the outcomes of recent events without political prejudices.

“This is, therefore, the time for all patriotic Ghanaians to wake up and with open eyes, cease to be like Thomas whose eyes could not see at this crucial moment of our dear nation’s history that requires each of us to sacrifice to defend the 1992 Constitution and put Ghana First.”

Mr Amidu noted that, the Finance Ministry can only execute the deal with the approval from the President of the Republic.

“Ghanaians must be hallucinating to think that the Minister of Health, whom I have known since our Commonwealth Hall days in the 1970s, would have had the temerity to have executed the Sputnik Covid-19 procurement contract without executive approval by the Mother of the Government.”

Martin Amidu

The Former Special Prosecutor further accused the President of using the Ad-hoc Parliamentary Committee as a façade to cover up his involvement in the deal and to exonerate his appointees involved of any wrong doing.

“From my experience working with President Akufo-Addo, I can bet my last pesewa that the report of the ad-hoc parliamentary committee on the Sputnik V – Covid-19 vaccine procurement was just a smokescreen behind which to exonerate and whitewash all the suspected unconstitutionalities and illegalities committed by the government in the procurement contract and payment for the vaccines.”

In addition, Mr Amidu, wondered why the Fininace Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is always at the center of fraudulent deals, citing the Agyapaa Royalties deal to back his claim. He thus, chided the Finance Minister for not sending the deal to Parliament for approval.

“Paradoxically, this was the same co-President and Minister of Finance who had himself gotten away with the aborted parliamentary approved Agyapa Transaction upon the exercise of executive veto by his co and de jure President that resulted in my resignation as the Special Prosecutor in November 2020.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has revealed that the Dubai-based middle-man, Sheikh Al Maktoum has refunded an amount of $2,470,000 following the directive to the Finance Ministry to take steps in that regard.

It can be recalled that Mr Amidu resigned as Special Prosecutor on November 16, 2020. He then, accused President Akufo-Addo of interfering in the findings of his Corruptions Risk Assessment conducted into the Agyapa Royalties Agreement.

Martin Amidu, in that report, implicated the Finance Minister for superintending bid-rigging among other infractions contained in the procuring of the Special Purpose Vehicle.

In his letter of resignation, he branded the President as a ‘mother serpent of corruption’ who is superintending over a corrupt administration.
