The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has revealed that the Ministry of Health is directly involved in the Agenda 111 project.

According to him, the Health Ministry is supported by a team made up of Ghanaians who advise and manage the project on behalf of the government.

His comments follow assertions by the Minority over government employing a team of project coordinators at the Presidency.

The team, the minority stated, were under the supervision of the Chief of Staff to implement this project, thereby overlooking the mandated agency being the Ministry of Health.

Mr Asamoa, reacting to the minority’s statement, revealed that the team “is to ensure the project is given the needed attention required to succeed”.

He further cited a reason “owing to the scope and complexity of the programme, which the already burdened Ministry of Health could not have accommodated effectively”.

“However, the Ministry of Health is directly involved and has been involved from the beginning in meetings where the project structure and organogram were discussed and agreed”.

Additionally, Mr Asamoa noted that the consultants will undertake the technical work and advise the government, including the Ministry of Health. Also, he insisted that they equally obtain approval of the Ministry on the decisions taken.

Following this, Mr Asamoa noted that in spite of the claims by the opposition, the Presidency has not chosen any contractor for the project.

He further added that the entire procurement rules have been followed, “leading to the engagement of desirous and capable Ghanaian contractors”.

He further noted that the Health Ministry is part of the Coordinating Committee, chaired by the Chief of Staff, that oversees the project along with other Ministries, namely Works and Housing, Local Government and Finance.

“It must be placed on record that contractors have not been handpicked from anywhere. The procurement of contractors has followed due process, and has been consistent with public procurement rules”.

NDC threatened by success of project

Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa suggested the NDC feels threatened by government’s Agenda 111 flagship programme.

Furthermore, Mr Asamoa also asserted that the opposition NDC feels scared that the project will prevent them from obtaining political power in the 2024 election.

The NPP Communications Director indicated that the NDC has nothing to give in comparison to the NPP. As such, Ghanaians should not consider giving them their votes.

“They are all talking just like they talked against the free SHS programme”.

“The NPP is doing something for you that is why the NDC are worried. The NDC feels threatened not because you are getting something good from the NPP but because they think and they believe and it is true that you would never give them your votes again.

“The NDC has nothing to give you so why should you give them your votes again? Can you really look at your thumb and give it back to former President, former flag bearer and aspiring flag bearer John Mahama? What did he do for you in 2012 after he took your vote? He took away your electricity even when you paid for it. He took away your hard earned susu leaving your child at home without school after she passed well. Now, he is going on a thank you tour and he is attacking you, he wants to take everything Nana Addo has given you away”.
