Owusu Bempah wasn’t bailed due to medical condition- Lawyer Garry Nimako

Garry Nimako Marfo, legal practitioner

Gary Nimako Marfo, the legal counsel for Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, the General Overseer of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, has disclosed that the actual reason behind the court granting bail for the man of God was not due to his medical condition.

The legal counsel clarified that the bail was granted to the man of God because the charges levelled against him, which are for “offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace and making death threats”, were all bailable offences according to the court of law.

“All of the charges are bailable. None of them are unbailable. You must demonstrate that the person will comply, the person will not counter and the person will not commit other offenses. Also, we had to demonstrate to the court that he will not abscond before he was granted bail.”

Detailing the turn of events, the lawyer said the Pastor pleaded not guilty to all the charges but because they [Owusu Bempah and his accomplices] had no reason to be granted bail, the judge demanded that all of them be put into custody. Afterwards, he revealed that the legal team went to the High Court to plead for bail for all of them.

Following the plead and trial, the court ordered that they have to be granted bail under the circumstances that their offence was bailable. He then confirmed that the Pastor was truly suffering from an illness and had to be hospitalized.

Stop politicization of Owusu Bempah’s case

Lawyer Gary Marfo further chastised some political actors for drawing politics into the arrest of his client adding that the propaganda going on is hurting the case of his client. He said there is this subtle propaganda going on which he wants to dispel because the case does not have any political implication.

“The people saying that there are some political machinations in the arrest and incarceration of [Owusu Bempah], I think it is not proper and it is not fair. They are hurting the case of my client because there is no political connotation in this particular matter.

“It is a case that has happened. He has been charged before a court; we should allow the system to work. Some people are making noise,;specially the NDC side to the extent that they are mentioning names which I don’t want to mention here. There is no politics to this matter.”

Gary Marfo

The legal counsel further noted that the issue at hand is a criminal matter;which has become a matter before court and as such,;the public and all political actors should allow the system to run.
