Ejura committee has no business dealing with Kaaka’s death- Oliver Vormarwor

Reading Time: 3 mins read
Lead convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has revealed that during his custody at the Police Station, he was never fed by officers and had to rely on meals from visitors.

Oliver Barker Vormarwor, Convenor of #FixtheCountry.

Oliver Barker Vormarwor, Convenor of #FixtheCountry, has condemned some aspect of the Ejura committee findings which sought to probe the protest which happened in Ejura leading to the death of some persons.

According to him, it was unnecessary for the committee to include in their report issues relating to the death of Ejura activist, Kaaka Macho.

“I mean it’s straining absurdity for them and particularly when you have a Justice of the court of Appeal sitting on a committee like this to be doing a foray into matters to who killed Kaaka…”

Oliver Barker Vormarwor

Recounting incidents from the Ejura committee proceedings, Mr Vormarwor narrated how the widow of Kaaka had asked the committee whether it will probe the death of Kaaka. With this, he revealed that the committee stated that “they had no mandate to look into that matter”.

Mr Vormawor equally posited that the committe should have been mindful, knowing that “certain persons are in police custody [and] have been arraigned before court”. Additionally, he intimated that without even being privy to the legalities of court proceedings, “common sense” should have been exacted by the committee with regards to the murder case.

Justifying his stance, he explained that “all that is necessary for our determination today is why did the people of Ejura come out to protest”.

Inclusion of Kaaka Macho’s death in committee’s report

On his part, Security analyst, Adam Bonaa, revealed the committee should not have gone to the extent of commenting on “who might have killed Kaaka”. Describing it as worrying, he explained that a matter of such magnitude must have been left for the court to give its verdict on.

That notwithstanding, he commended the Ejura committee for its diligence in coming out with the report.

“But I must put across that… I was a bit worried about the committee and how they were going about their work. Looking forward, I will say that they’ve done quite a good job. So, I must say Justice Koomson and his people have done quite a good job but there are aspects of it which I think they shouldn’t have gone into. Especially knowing how Kaaka died and the fact that Kaaka’s death is a subject that is being delt with in the court. So, you have a committee that is alleging how Kaaka might have died… he didn’t die through his activism [but] he died because of a family feud. Well, I believe that all that will be proven in court and I would have wished that the committee knowing very well how he died would have stayed away from this issue since they were not there to investigate Kaaka’s death. Even though one would say Kaaka’s death was a precursor to whatever unfolded”.

Adam Bonaa

Adam Bonaa revealed that persons such as the regional minister and the police regional commander were not “indicted” per the report. He explained that, it is worrying that these persons were not in any way mentioned in the report.

“I would have wished that these two people would have been mentioned at least. But they were not mentioned as if they did nothing wrong”.
