Arrest Assembly Members who Took bribe in Juaben MCE election- Fred Agbenyo

Deputy Director for International Relations of the NDC, Fred Agbenyo

The Deputy Director for International Relations of the NDC, Fred Agbenyo, has called on the Ashanti Regional Police Service to arrest the Assembly Members who were alleged to have taken bribe from the Juaben MCE nominee, Mr. Alex Sarfo Kantanka, to vote for him.

Speaking on the arrest of the MCE nominee,;he indicated that since he was not the only person involved in the bribery, the rest must also be brought to book.

According to Mr. Agbenyo, it will be fair and proper for the Police to start picking up these persons, if it wants to resolve the issue.

“The Police has to pick them because from the video, everybody saw that there were persons in the room the man was directly accusing that he gave money to. Others who were not even there are all to be picked up because if you receive a bribe, it’s an offence and for the giver too, it’s an offence”.

The Deputy Director called for proper investigations to be done and adequate punishment meted out to the offenders to serve as a deterrent to others who want to engage in such illegal activities. He expressed the activity has been happening all these years and as such must be dealt with.

“This MCE who has been arrested is not the only person involved in this thing. It is something that has been going on for only God knows how long except that we don’t speak the truth. And so, we pretend that since he has been caught on tape… he is going to be the one to face the law. But it’s a reality as a result of the creature we have created in the constitution”.

Amend constitution limiting MCE voting to Assembly Members

Mr. Agbenyo admonished that to stop the current trend of activities, the right measures must be put in place by amending the constitution. He then suggested that we should not only limit the voting of the nominee to just the assembly members. Once the provision is taken out, he said, it will become difficult for anybody to go out there and bribe.

“But yes, everybody is stealing but you have been caught so you have to face the music.  He has been caught on tape saying that he gave money out to some person to vote for him and unfortunately they didn’t”.
