The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that a load management schedule is likely to follow the falling of a communication mast on the 330kV Aboadze-Kumasi Transmission Line.

According to a communique from the power supply unit today, Wednesday, November 10, 2021 it indicated that the falling of a communication mast resulted in the collapse of two adjacent towers near Bogoso in the Western Region.

“This has affected the national power system and may result in some load management. GRIDCo is working around the clock to replace the fallen towers within the shortest possible time”.

GRIDCo apologized for any inconvenience the outages may cause and assured the public that it is committed to maintaining a stable network for reliable and efficient power delivery.

This comes after a general blackout on Monday, November 8, 2021, which affected most parts of the country. Most places including Takoradi, Dansoman, Nima, Teshie, Tarkwa, and areas in the Bono Region reported outages on Monday.

GRIDCo in the report to the public on the possible cause of the outage blamed what it described as a ‘significant disturbance’ in its power systems as the cause of the widespread power outage.

The Ghana Grid Company Limited noted that its power generating units at Aboadze and Bui tripped, hence the incident. It subsequently said the situation was rectified as of Tuesday, November 9, 2021, although it encountered a similar problem again minutes after it restored power at 4.30 am.

This, it said, led to another interruption of electricity supply to several areas of Accra, the Western, Middle, and Northern parts of the country. GRIDCO, in collaboration with its key stakeholders in the power supply chain, indicated that it has restored power to all its Bulk Supply Points (BSPs).

GRIDCO assured its valued stakeholders in the affected areas that it will continue to provide a stable power system for dependable and efficient power supply for national and economic growth and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

ECG on system disturbance

Similarly, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) also in a separate statement has noted that a system disturbance was experienced upstream which resulted in outages within ECG’s operational areas. The statement further disclosed that some customers were still without power because of load limitations from GRIDCo.

ECG assured the general public especially affected customers that immediately its in-take points from GRIDCO are fully loaded, power will be restored across the affected regions and areas.

This unfortunate incident comes days after GRIDCo assured the nation of reliable power supply from now throughout the Christmas festivities.

Following the completion of the Accra Central and the Pokuase Bulk Supply Plant (BSP), GRIDCo stated that government’s vision of revamping the country’s energy sector to provide stable and reliable power to Ghanaians is on course and as such the nation will enjoy stable power supply.

According to GRIDCo, other energy sector projects like the Kasoa BSP, upgrade of major transmission lines between Accra and Tema and the upgrade of transmission lines in Kumasi are still ongoing and will be completed soon. Government has so far worked to significantly reduce the congestion on the existing ECG feeders which will result in improved reliability of power supply to meet the growing power demand in the country.
