In October, some schools warned parents not to let their children watch the drama due to its gruesome content. Parents were urged to “be vigilant” amid multiple reports of children recreating violent scenes from the hit Netflix series.

In an email sent to parents and guardians, the education safeguarding team for Central Bedfordshire council in the U.K. warned of “reports that children and young people were copying games and violence the [from] Netflix series ‘Squid Game’”.

According to the email, there were some concerned reports about children and young people ‘playing’ Squid Game whilst at school.

It also noted that Squid Game was being viewed via other platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, and given the popularity of the games in the show, developers have made various mini-games based on Squid Game on Roblox and other gaming platforms. Following this, they advised that children should not be allowed to watch the show since it is quite graphic with a lot of violent content.

The warning came after a principal at an elementary school in the U.K. reported that several children around the age of six were recreating scenes from the show.

Gareth Nicols, who is principal at Sir Francis Hill primary school in Lincoln, said “a small group of pupils within the school, aged around six” were heard talking about the Netflix series and “re-enacting some scenes.”

Netflix reported billion-dollar profits and booming subscriber growth on Tuesday that beat forecasts as global hits like Squid Game drew viewers in droves.

The parents of the children involved were contacted and their mobile devices were checked to determine if they had been watching the series without their parents’ knowledge.

Meanwhile, Squid Game season two was confirmed earlier this month, with creator Hwang Dong-hyuk announcing the news.

Speaking in an interview he said: “So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So, I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say, there will indeed be a second season”.

The screenwriter also stated that the ideas are in his head right now, as he is in the “planning process” at the moment.

“But I do think it’s too early to say when and how it’s going to happen. So, I will promise you this… Gi-hun will come back, he’ll do something for the world”.
