Ghanaian actress, Martha Ankomah

Celebrated Ghanaian actress, Martha Ankomah, has disclosed that one of the main reasons why the Ghanaian movie industry stopped flourishing at a point is because the Nigerian Movie producers pay well than the Ghanaian movie producers.

Speaking in an interview, Martha Ankomah stated that most Ghanaian film producers were being “stingy” with the income they make out of their movies and refused to pay actresses and actors what was due them.

Narrating what transpired within the movie industry at that time, Martha Ankoma disclosed that some Ghanaian film producers connived and eradicated the Nigerian film producers who were paying actors very well out of the system due to competition. According to the actress, even though the Ghanaian producers were successful with their plot of driving the Nigerian movie producers out of Ghana, they failed to address the pending issue of not paying well and even went on to stop shooting movies.

Martha revealed that due to the situation, some Ghanaian movie stars had to relocate to Nigeria in search of new job opportunities in the Nigerian movie industry. She explained that most Nollywood movie producers knew the gains they will make out of paying actors and actresses well “because, with that, the actors and actresses give it their all in making the movie great”.

She lamented that those rural communities are currently going through devastating moments yet, government representatives who are supposed to run to their aid have ignored them, but she, who isn’t affiliated with any political party has caused changes in those communities.

Martha stated that her ‘Martha Ankomah Foundation’ has done a lot for these rural communities like setting up libraries for students, giving them learning materials as well as other essential materials to aid in the development of the communities.

Aside being noted for her benevolence, Martha has been noted as one of the decently dressed entertainment industry players. When asked what influenced her choice of dressing, Martha answered noting that she’s “not in any competition with anyone to be showing off any part of her body”.

Martha explained that even though the world is quickly evolving and what would have been criticized some years ago have now become the “new normal”, she still believes in decent dressing. She then advised the youth especially to take up the agenda of dressing decently.
