The mother of late Sylvester Oromoni, the 12 year old student of Dowen College who passed on as a result of an alleged maltreatment he received in the hand of his seniors in school has called upon her maker to avenge the death of her son.
This comes after the Lagos State government cleared five of the Dowen college students suspected to be involved in his death.
A heart wrenching video of the woman praying and cursing those who had a hand in the death of her son has surfaced online. Late Sylvester’s mother asked God to avenge her son’s death by cutting the lives of those who cut her son’s live short. She also prayed that they would experience the pain and agony she has gone through as a result of the unfortunate demise of her son. She invoked God’s wrath on those connected to Sylvester’s death and those supporting it as well. Sylvester Sylvester
However, she thanked Nigerians for the love and support her family received while they were seeking justice for her late son.
No Evidence to Convict Suspects
Five employees of the college who were also accused of complicity in the death of the 12 year old Sylvester were also cleared. They were released and cleared following the legal advice of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi.
Oshinusi made the claims based on the autopsy report of the deceased. It was concluded that “no prima facie case of murder, involuntary manslaughter and malicious administering of poison with the intent of harm against the five student, Favour Benjamin, Michael Kashamu, Edward Begue, Ansel Temile and Kenneth Inyang, students of Dowen College accused of Sylvester’s death”.

The state also cleared the minors of belonging to unlawful society due to insufficient facts to establish the offense. It stated that from available facts in the duplicate case file, the Investigation carried out by the police did not reveal that any secret society name, tattoo or instigma of any unlawful society was found in the possession of any of the suspects during the investigations carried out by the police.
More Investigations to be Carried out
In the course of investigation into the alleged murder, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Hakeem Odumosu, revealed that investigation was still ongoing, part of which was the toxicology test that needed to be conducted on the corpse.
Shedding more light on the investigation, Odumosu, said: “We are not at the peak yet. But we have done our investigation and have sent the report to the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP for legal advice on those arrested and DPP has replied. We have gone through the medical aspect which is the post mortem. The report of the Post Mortem did not bring out the issue of murder on anybody”.
Explaining why the suspected people involved in the case were released, Odumasu noted that besides the result of the autopsy, the court order that the police received had elapsed, therefore they had to release the house master and others on bail, because there was nothing that indicted them of murder.
“It is only a murder case that is not bailable. Every other offences are bailable. They have been in custody for more than twenty days and that is infringing on their fundamental human rights. Since medical and legal reports have not indicted them so far, I think there is need to allow them have their freedom because bail is not the end of the case”.

Odumosu then disclosed that another forensic test known as toxicology, will be carried out on the corpse. The Toxicology test is to determine the concoction that was allegedly forced into the deceased mouth which peeled his lips. The test according to Odumosu, would be conducted abroad. He explained that “Toxicology test was being done in Nigeria before, precisely at the Lagos State medical facility in Lagos Island. But after the EndASRS crisis, it is conducted outside the country.
“Until that one is effectively done, we won’t know the final report. But with the interim report, nothing showed murder”.
