Plans To Attack Bank Of Ghana Office Averted

Robbers Ammunition ceased

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has arrested six suspected members of the Western Togoland allegedly planning to attack the Bank of Ghana office in Hohoe, as well as the Adomi bridge, among other targets.

The suspects’ main goal in attacking the Bank of Ghana, according to the military, was to steal the money housed within it and ultimately use it to buy the needed weapons that would be used to attack some members of the Ghana Police Services.

“Suspects were heard in a recorded audio telling Mr. Klottey their plans to attack the bank of Ghana, Hohoe branch for money to procure weapons. Also, they wanted to attack Sogakope and Adomi Bridge to ward off any military reprisal during the insurgence. For weapons, the group was heard saying their target is the Police and Immigration personnel whose officers were always seen inattentive whilst carrying firearms. Suspects are in custody and exhibit vehicle impounded”.

The alleged attackers are Atsu Seworvor aged 59, resident of Tsiyinu near Afife, Kofi Amemakor age 35 from Adaklu Wudidi, Felix Besah Boso aged 30 from Mafi Asiekpe, Kofi Koto from Atikpli near Tokokoe/Ho, Mawuli Amedziko aged 30 from Adaklu Kpeluhoe and Agbesi Nyarvor age 48 from Abor, a driver of Mitsubishi Space Wagon with Reg.No. GW4796W.

The GAF added that “Suspects were arrested at the outskirts of Agblekpui near Aflao when they arrived at the area in the vehicle to receive Arms and ammunition from one Torgbui, apparently captured by Mr. Moses Klottey [member of the Ghana Armed Forces] and other men from the army.

Time Frame in Capturing the Attackers

Mr. Klottey posited that he and his team had to pretend that they were willing to help them and schedule a date for them to come for the assistance. This, according to the military, led to their arrest and have been taken to custody.

According to Mr. Klottey, his outfit has been working on the group for the past one month as they came looking for a financier who could help provide weapons to them for the secession. DI Klottey posed as Torgbui, a retired Togolese military officer and promised to assist them with any number of firearms and ammunition as well as providing personnel for the project. A date was fixed for collection leading to their arrest. Suspects told Police that they travelled from their respective communities and assembled at Paradise Hotel in Akatsi before embarking on the journey to Aflao for the weapons.

This is not the first-time separatists from Western Togoland have been apprehended. Earlier last year, police in the Volta Region arrested five people in Denu accused of belonging to the Western Togoland secessionist group.

Their arrest followed a report from the Denu Divisional Police Command that some massively built males had been spotted in the home of Francis Bedzo, a former Assemblyman for Denu.

On the phone of suspect Isaac Norvinye Agbesi, police allegedly discovered photos of him and others receiving military training with weapons in an undisclosed location, as well as an audio recording in which he was heard ordering his colleagues to attack police and other security agencies for weapons during their planned attack.

The Group wants the Volta, Oti, and parts of the Upper East Region to be made an autonomous country known as Western Togoland.
