Police Administration to deal with violent crimes in Hotspot areas- ACP Kwasi Fori

DCOP Kwesi Ofori, Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service

The Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, has intimated that Police Officers shooting an assailant on Friday, February 28, 2022 at Kwabenya was in its right place.

ACP Kwesi Ofori stated that the officers are human and are in an organization that has its objectives and functions clearly defined and what should be done at certain times.

“The Police has its rules of engagement which was applied. Let me be clear that what was done was done according to law and the Police will not compromise on these acts at all.”

ACP Ofori was speaking on the back of an attack on a Police Officer at a Police station in Kwabenya, where the Police in the quest to arrest the assailant shot him dead after he attacked some three persons earlier.

Commenting on the event, he indicated that the Ghana Police Service will not allow hooligans and criminals to inflict injuries on its men and continue to kill its officers who are performing their mandates.

ACP Kwasi Ofori, posited that it is unacceptable for criminals to continue to kill officers in their line of duty. He noted that the Service will continue to use legitimate means to wade off criminals and protect citizens.

“The Police will not permit it. It happened about three weeks ago in Berekum where a suspect also killed one Seargent Annobil. This kind of thing, we need the citizens to also respect the Police because we are in to serve and protect and, therefore, [there are] no grounds for such actions against our officers.”

According to ACP Ofori, had it not been the intervention of the Station Commander, the gentleman now deceased, would have even killed all the three of the people he was chasing at the Police premises which would have been a big minus for them.

ACP Kwesi Ofori stated that, so far investigation is ongoing and details about the deceased will be provided in due time. He indicated that the Police officer who was injured is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and his situation is improving.

Kwabenya Police Attack

Detailing the event which took place, ACP Kwesi Ofori explained that his outfit received a report that the police in Kwabenya on Friday, 28th January, 2022 shot and killed a suspect for stabbing an officer in the head.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Police, the deceased, Hakim had earlier attacked three others and threatened to kill them.

“The victims out of fear, rushed to the police station to seek refuge but the suspect pursued the victims to the police station with a knife.”

ACP Kwesi Ofori noted that at the police station, the deceased attacked the station officer with a knife and stabbed him multiple times in the head for attempting to protect the victims from the violent attack.
