Central Regional Minister, Justina Amarigold Assan, has urged citizens and all stakeholders to get involved in activities ongoing to mark Ghana’s 65th Independence anniversary.

Speaking on the activities thus far, she averred that as COVID-19 has had a difficult toll on the country, which is now bouncing back gradually, efforts to get the nation back must be done together.

According to the Central Regional Minister, the involvement of citizens, will help transform the region, country and every aspect of the lives of citizens. She indicated that the euphoria towards the celebration is wide spread with other regions being involved as well.

“It is Ghana we are celebrating. So, we really need to work together and bounce back together.”

Commenting on the excitement by the residents towards the celebration, Justina Assan indicated that this is more than what was witnessed during the Farmers Day celebrations held in Cape Coast last year. She indicated that it has so far been very exciting and the enthusiasm from the people is a clear indication that the region will have a wonderful celebration come Sunday, March 6, 2022.

Sharing some of the highlights of the celebration by the region, the Minister indicated that there was a clean up exercise, a health walk which was later followed by a thanksgiving service among other activities which are still ongoing.

“We’ve had a local programme towards the 6th March which has been so successful. We started off with a clean up exercise which was [on] the 25th of February for the whole country. But for the Central Region, we took it to the next level where various MMDCE’s also partook.

“We got a lot of institutions partaking in this cleanup exercise. We climaxed it with a speech and made them know that it is not a one off thing but something we would be doing every month, so that we don’t wait [till] when we are going to have visitors like this.”

Security agencies ready to work

Justina Assan touching on security stated that the security agencies have sent signal that they are ready. This, she noted, should tell the visitors and the regional members that it is not easy for anyone to do anything in the region and go scot free.

“They are on the ground and are battle ready for anything. We are safe. So, those travelling near and far to come and witness the program will be in safety.”

“All hotels in the region [have] been booked fully. Drivers, hairdressers and seamstresses are working.”

According to the Minister, the aftermath of this celebration will impact the local economy greatly. She appealed that most of the national events should be given to the region to hold due to the developmental projects the region has witnessed within this short span.

“For a very long time, Cape Coast street lighting is very dark but because of the 6th March, we spoke to the Energy Minister and he released some materials for us. ECG is on board and we have other agencies who are also supporting.”

Justina Assan disclosed that the road network in the regional has improved and posited that the region is ready to host any other because of the development it comes with.
