Dome Kwabenya Constituency Secretary, Theophilus Larbi, has rubbished claims that the party has expunged names of aspirants aligned to the current Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo ahead of the party’s election.

Dome Kwabenya Constituency Secretary, Theophilus Ansah Larbi, has rubbished claims that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency have maligned some aspirants who are supporters of the current Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, ahead of the party’s election.

Mr Larbi revealed that he is determined to “set off that notion that there is a problem or people maligning people who are aligned to the MP”. He indicated that during elections of this nature, such concerns are to be expected.

“It is always normal for aspirants who are looking forward to contest subsequent elections, that a committee putting in place their outcome doesn’t meet their expectation. Typical of it is during the 2020 elections. Before the elections, you realize the electoral commission wanted to compile a new voter’s album and the opposition party led by their presidential candidate did not agree to it, just because they thought it will not go to their expectation. So, it is always normal. This particular exercise, a committee was put in place with rules and regulations to be adhered to. So, as an aspirant, you don’t go and think the committee will work to your aspiration and if that doesn’t go to your expectation you think it is not fair.”

Mr Larbi disclosed that ten nominations were open to aspirants to contest and that no one has been disqualified at the constituency elections. He explained that the party has certain standards that an aspirant has to meet per its constitution before the aspirant will be able to even vote or contest internally. By virtue of this, he noted that the election process is being undertaken with strict adherence to the party’s stipulations.

“If you go to the polling stations, we are not talking of disqualification… A committee will be put in place to make sure that [during] open nominations [and] close of nominations, [the committee] takes files, vets the forms before a contest goes on… As far as I’m concerned, polling station elections and acclamations have been done, coordinators elections and acclamation have been done and we are going into constituency elections as we speak.”

Commenting on the displeasure by some aspirants with the electoral process in the constituency, Mr Larbi revealed that the leadership of the party is not happy with the development. To address teething issues, he highlighted that leaders are doing their best to mitigate the situation to ensure it doesn’t affect the party negatively.

Dome Kwabenya Elections To Be Held On May 1

Meanwhile, the Dome Kwabenya Constituency Secretary revealed that elections will be conducted in the constituency on May 1. Mr Larbi indicated that the election is on schedule despite some displeasure among aspirants in the constituency. He emphasized that aggrieved aspirants have the opportunity to have their concerns redressed by a committee set aside for such purposes.

“The election is going to be held on the 1st of May. That is exactly what the Chairman of the region said… In the wisdom of the party hierarchy, they knew that definitely some people will not be happy with the process because it will not go to their aspiration. So, they’ve put in place mechanisms to mitigate all these differences. They have a committee in place that if you are not happy with them, they will take care of the situation you are not happy with.”
