We Must Deal With Internally Generated Terrorizing Principles- Ransford Gyampo

Legal Counsels For Petition Being Partisan And Polarized- Prof Gyampo

Professor Ransford Van Gyampo, Senior Political Science lecturer, University of Ghana

An Associate Professor at the University of Ghana, Dr. Ransford Gyampo, has called for the country to deal with its own internally generated terrorizing principles in the wake of rising security concerns.

Reacting to the directive of the National Security Ministry urging citizens to be vigilant due to terrorist attacks, Ransford Gyampo intimated that the nation must confront its rules, clichés and practices in the justice delivery system, to give Ghana the needed oneness with which the people can fight and repel external terrorist attacks.

According to the Professor, while the country must take the warning from the Ministry seriously, those in charge of the nation’s security must know that the current delays in the justice delivery system makes the people insecure in the country. “Can they issue another appropriately directed warning or caution?”

Professor Gyampo lamented that the wheels of justice turn instantly when #Fixthecountry convener, Oliver Barker Vormawor drives recklessly but when people, captured on video to be using stones to hit the head of a soldier and killing him like “beela rat” are taken to court, the same wheels of justice takes more than 5 years to keep turning.

“What do we think we are doing to morale among soldiers dispatched for national assignments? Are we not inciting soldiers against civilians? Are we not putting them aggressively on the defensive whenever they encounter civilians?”

Dr. Ransford Gyampo

The Associate professor indicated that if the authorities cannot all advocate for a finality to be brought to the trial of the murderers of Major Maxwell Mahama, without further delay, then the warning of potential terrorist attack on the nation, to him, is merely hypocritical and diversionary.

“We are already living in fear and panic if the matter involving people who were captured on video pouring petrol on a soldier and burning him alive is still before the courts after five years. This is terrorizing enough and the warnings about potential terrorist attacks makes our situation worse. The lazy and bogus cliche of the wheels of justice turning slowly, makes all of us already unsafe, as it doesn’t deter such terrorizing murders like that of Major Maxwell Mahama.”

Dr. Ransford Gyampo

According to Professor Gyampo, he agrees with the fact that justice delayed is justice denied and the wheels of justice turns slowly but the nation has failed to achieve clarity as to when to use the former or latter.

Ministry warns against traveling to Gao Region

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Ghana has warned Ghanaians against traveling to the Gao Region in Northern Mali due to the abduction and execution of travelers, especially Christians in that part of the West African country.

The Ministry advised Ghanaians who are already in the Gao region to flee immediately for their safety and security.

A statement issued by the Ministry said “In view of recent abductions and executions of travelers especially Christians (including Ghanaians) in the Gao Region of Northern Mali, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration advises against all travels to Gao and its surrounding areas in northeastern Mali.”

According to the Ministry, commercial transport operators and drivers who still ply the Gao route from Ghana are particularly advised, as a matter of urgency, to suspend all operations to that part of Mali.
