General Secretary of NPP, John Boadu

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has disclosed that the Central regional delegates conference will come on in the shortest possible time after the court’s final decision on the elections.

Speaking about the injunction placed on the region’s elections, he stated that although the public is of the view that the party could have proceeded with the election, the lawyers in the party however, thought otherwise. “It was enough grounds for us not to go ahead and organize the conference.”

The General Secretary intimated that the elections weren’t conducted due to the respect the party has for its lawyers after it cautioned them to wait for the final decision from the court on the matter.

“Because if you check the details of the things that those who sent it to court were looking for, they said they’ve been denied the ability to participate in decision making of who becomes their Regional Chairman and they think that their rights have been trampled upon.”

John Boadu

Detailing what led to the court injunction and the party’s next course of action, John Boadu posited that the case started after an applicant who wanted to contest for constituency chairmanship was disqualified and he appealed to the Regional Appeal Committee. Mr. Boadu indicated that there was a recommendation from the committee for him to act on certain issues which he did.

The General Secretary of the NPP stated that another recommendation came from the Appeals Committee and it was again appealed and the case ended at the National Council. This was later followed by the court appeal by the five party members for an injunction on the elections.

“Hearing from the argument, the National Council referred the matter to the alternate dispute resolution committee and they came out with their recommendation directing the gentleman involved to publicly apologize to the Regional Chairman.”

John Boadu stated that the party is waiting for the gentleman to issue an unqualified apology so the party can take the next course of action. Aside that, he averred the party is yet to take a decision prior to the court ruling as to when the election also will be held in order for the entire 23 constituencies in the Central Region to have their regional annual delegates’ conference.

I’ve been dedicated to NPP

Touching on his personal bid to remain the General Secretary of the Party, John Boadu averred that the delegates know he has been dedicated to the party, working very hard for it as well in its most difficult times.

As such, John Boadu stated as he launches his campaign, members should remember his contribution to ensuring the party has been victorious twice in the general elections and select him when the time is due.

John Boadu’s comments on the Central regional delegates’ conference followed complaints by supporters in the Central Region who stated that they cannot understand why the party will just allow the notice of injunction to go through when it could have allowed the internal structures to work.

This came after the NPP finished its regional elections in some 15 regions to elect some executives. The delegates have expressed unhappiness as the central region could not participate in the just ended polls.
