Authorities To Construct Speed Ramps On Roads Leading To Islamic High School

Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has disclosed that authorities will see to the construction of speed ramps on roads leading to the Islamic Senior High School.

Simon Osei who was commenting on the Islamic High School incident stated that, this is to guard against any possible chaos in the school and grant their request of having a speed ramp.

“Yesterday because the security people were all around, I decided to come later after the security people were done with their work to come and see the issue at hand and take the remedial measures.”

Simon Osei Mensah

The Regional Minister averred that the issue of the construction of the ramps came to him just after the incident. He noted that with that, he even heard it on the airwaves but no letter has come to his office regarding the issue.

“We are not going to waste too much time following up where they send the letters to. But now that the issue has come up to the public domain, we are going to discuss with the urban roads to make sure that they come and do the needful so that we raise the needed speed ramps to prevent further accidents in this area.”

Simon Osei Mensah

According to Simon Osei, if the communication regarding the state of the road had gone on well, the chaos that took place on Monday, June 13, 2022 could have been avoided.

“But we thank God ultimately that nobody lost their lives. It is unfortunate that some of them had to be admitted in the hospitals overnight. We came with the second group to the school and the final group will return after treatment and are discharged.”

Similar incident shouldn’t occur

Mr. Osei Mensah intimated that it is his prayer a similar occurrence doesn’t take place in a any other school. He then urged all institutions in the region to address concerns to his office to be addressed.

“If they engage some departments and they are not getting the results, they can come to my office and report and we will deal with the major stakeholders and make sure that the problems are resolved”

Simon Osei Mensah

Mr. Osei Mensah who doubles as the Ashanti Region REGSEC Chairman refused to comment on the conduct of the Police but stated that REGSEC was waiting on a report to decide on the next line of action.

“We are now taking reports from the regional director of education and the regional Police commander. When we get the report, the regional security council will analyze the report and then we come.”

Simon Osei Mensah

This incident happened after students of the Islamic High School protested against the nature of the road causing accidents around their school. This, unfortunately turned out to be an exchange between the students and Police causing some injuries.
However, over 30 of the students who were hurt during the violence have been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
