Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has pledged to the people of Suame Magazine to expedite works on the reconstruction of roads in the community.

Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has pledged the people of Suame Magazine to expedite works on the reconstruction of roads in the community.

According to him, there was a major demonstration by artisans at Suame Magazine over the refurbishment and reconstruction of the main highway from Suame roundabout through Mancro to Afrancho. He indicated that the road had developed several potholes and it was causing some accidents and because of that, the minister for roads and highways awarded a contract to enable the refurbishment and reconstruction of the roads.

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu revealed that the contractor started work but midway, he experienced acute shortage of bitumen. Having waited for about two weeks, he explained that the contractor had to go to La Cote D’Ivoire to procure the bitumen, in order to complete the works that he had started.

“Fortunately, we’ve spoken to the contractor who has as I said, been able to procure the bitumen and within the next couple of days, he is coming to complete what he has started, that is, the reshaping of the road and application of another overlay of asphalt. So, in the next three days, the hope is that we’ll begin applying the asphalt and hopefully, let’s say in the next two weeks or three weeks he should be able to finish with it.”

Completion of road works on Suame roads

The Suame legislator highlighted that due to the introductory preparation of the road for refurbishment, there was massive dust on the roads and the artisans were complaining of dust taking over. He indicated that the people who ply their trade along the stretch are mechanics who deal in spare parts and when the dust settles on the parts, it makes them appear as old wares.

“So, they are not able to sell at the prices they are determined to sell. Apart from that, inhaling the dust was also causing sicknesses among them and that was what occasioned the demonstration.”

Nonetheless, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasized that the completion of the roads will bring considerable relief to the users of the road. He assured the artisans of the ongoing works on the roads and appealed to them that in the “very near future government is going to begin the construction of the interchange” at Suame.

The MP who doubles as the Majority Leader in parliament expressed that this is also going to cause some dust and if it is difficult for the artisans to tolerate this, it will also be difficult for them to do same when the major construction begins.

“So, we need to come and speak to them to be on the lookout for this so that when the time comes for the construction of the interchange to begin, people will not develop apprehension for the dust that may come up because it’s a necessary part of road construction. So, it is for these two reasons I decided to come and talk to my countrymen and women and workers at Suame Magazine.”
