Vice President Supports Ampem Darkoa Ladies With GH₵50,000

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has donated GH₵50,000 to Ampem Darkoa Ladies football club to cushion their participation in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B qualifiers.

The cash presentation was made on his behalf on Saturday evening at the team’s camping base ahead of their departure on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

In a goodwill message conveyed to the team, Dr Bawumia urged them to go all out and make themselves and the country proud in Cote d’Ivoire.

Team captain, Justice Tweneboah, eulogized the Vice President for the kind gesture and received the money on behalf of the management and playing body of the team.

“We never anticipated this surprise from our Vice President and I wish to extend our profound gratitude to the Veep for this gift. We thank him very much and may the good Lord replenish him on our behalf. We are giving him our highest assurance that we shall go and deliver in Cote d’Ivoire”.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies celebrate domestic double after Ghanaian Cup win

Ampem Darkoa Ladies secured the Ghanaian Women’s Cup and sealed their first domestic double for 13 years with a 1-0 victory over Hasaacas Ladies in June this year.

A fortnight before winning the FA Cup, Ampem Darkoa celebrated their third Women’s Premier League crown and first since 2017 after edging Hasaacas Ladies 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side only needed Comfort Yeboah’s 17th minute strike from the spot to secure the FA Cup at the expense of holders Hasaacas Ladies.

It marked the first ever FA Cup triumph for the Techiman based outfit and means their first ever season double, making them the second Ghanaian side to complete the domestic double, following Hasaacas’ successes in 2021.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies will represent Ghana at the WAFU B qualifying tournament in Cote d’Ivoire from August 13 to 27 in Abidjan, where they will seek qualification to the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.

Reacting to the team’s season double, Nana Ampem Darkoa III, one of the club’s sponsors, expressed joy over their title feats and excitement of breaking Hasaacas domestic jinx in Ghana.

“We are very confident that with this kind of performance, we can go very far in the two competitions. Our target is to win the WAFU edition and qualify us for the African version where the challenge will be bigger and stronger”.

Ampem Darkoa III

Former Ghana champions, Hasaacas Ladies, won the 2021 edition of WAFU B qualifying tournament and went on to finish as runners-up in the inaugural continental showpiece in Egypt.

Ahead of their WCL campaign, Ampem Darkoa will aim to surpass the feat of Hasaacas and the club’s sponsor is counting on the corporate sector to achieve a regional and continental quest.

“At this moment, we want to call on the government and the private sector to support us financially and other forms of support. This is not a burden we can carry alone. We need everyone on board to support our preparation and participation in the two competitions. With determination and the support from Ghanaians, we can make the difference in Africa”.
