The Flash DC Comic Films Actor Begins Treatment For Complex Mental Health Issues

Actor, Ezra Miller, has begun treatment for complex mental health issues.

According to him, having recently gone through a time of “intense crisis”, he now understand that he is “suffering complex mental health issues” and has begun ongoing treatment.

In a statement, the star apologised to those ‘they’ had “alarmed and upset” with ‘their’ recent behaviour.

“I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

The statement to film site Variety, comes amid uncertainty over whether the controversies will affect the planned 2023 release of the film The Flash.

The embattled actor, who is non-binary and uses ‘they’ and ‘them’ pronouns, played the DC Comics character Barry Allen in 2017’s ‘Justice League’ and its 2021 counterpart, ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’. However, ‘their’ role in the comic book franchise has been overshadowed by ‘their’ off-screen behaviour, which has alarmed friends and associates of the actor, as well as Warner Bros., the studio behind ‘The Flash’.

Most recently, Miller was charged with felony burglary in Vermont, after state police investigated an incident involving several bottles of alcohol being taken from a residence while the homeowners were not present.

The actor made headlines in 2020 after a recording surfaced in which ‘they’ appeared to be choking a woman outside of a bar in Iceland. No charges were filed. Similarly, the actor has been arrested twice in Hawaii this year, once for disorderly conduct and harassment. In the Hawaii incidents, Miller pled no contest to a single count of misdemeanour disorderly conduct and paid a $500 fine and $30 in court costs. The harassment charge was dismissed.

The series of scandals has become a snowballing public relations issue, not only for Miller, but also for Warner Bros. Discovery, which has employed the actor across two of its cornerstone franchises, DC Comics films and the ‘Harry Potter’ spinoff series ‘Fantastic Beasts’.

Warner Bros. position on Ezra Miller’s troubles

The fate of Warner Bros’ ‘The Flash’ hangs in the balance as actor Ezra Miller continues to make headlines for ‘their’ controversial behaviour and various arrests. An outright shelving of the film is not off the table, though it would be a last resort.

Warners and its new parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery had hoped to avoid the line of fire, because its big-budget DC superhero tent pole isn’t scheduled to hit theatres until June 23, 2023. But the pressure is mounting by the day.

There has been speculation about the fate of The Flash, the first film to be led by Miller’s character, and whether the actor’s recent headline-making behaviour could lead studio Warner Bros to put it out with little promotional fanfare or even cancel its release.

A source close to the studio says that Warner Bros. supports Miller’s decision to seek professional help.

‘The Flash’ is set to open in theatres on June 23, 2023 and reportedly serves as a key entry in the studio’s DC Comics films, featuring appearances by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as Batman.

Earlier this month, studio chief executive, David Zaslav, stated that he was “very excited” for the movie to be released next year.
