Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has commissioned a Sinohydro road project in the Central Region.

According to him, apart from the SinoHydro, government is undertaking road works in every region of the country. He revealed that in the Central Region, a number of road projects have been completed.

“… I commissioned another SinoHydro road project, this time the construction and rehabilitation of inner-city roads in the Central Regional Capital, Cape Coast.”

Dr Mahanudu Bawumia

Dr Bawumia stated that the commissioned project includes 102km of highway roads namely partial reconstruction of Cape Coast-Twifo Praso road and access road to Kakum Park, which covers some 30km. Additionally, he indicated the upgrading of Dunkwa-Twifo Praso-Assin Foso road -20km, and partial reconstruction of a 15km road in Bawjiase-Agona Swedru.

“The Department of Urban Roads (DUR) has completed 30km of asphalt overlay works. Beneficiary towns include Cape Coast, Agona Swedru, Winneba and Anomabo. In addition, the DUR have re-gravelled 50km of roads and also undertaken the rehabilitation of 7.5km of roads.”

Sinohydro projects by government

Earlier this year in April, Dr Bawumia cut sod for the start of works on the Kumasi Inner City Roads Project under the Sinohydro facility. The 100 kilometres road project has been scheduled to be completed within 30 months.

The project shall upgrade and improve the condition of 145 separate roads through various periodic maintenance activities like minor rehabilitation, upgrading and partial reconstruction.

Beneficiary areas include Suame, Kwadaso, Bantama, Manhyia, Asante Mampong and Effiduase Asokore. The scope of works for the project includes the construction of roadside drains, provision of culverts, earthworks, provision of base and sub-base, double surface dressing, and road line marking.

A month prior, Dr Bawumia commissioned a number of completed road projects within the Nyinahin Bauxite Enclave, captured as Upgrading of Selected Feeder Roads in the Ashanti and Western Regions under Lot 8 of the Sinohydro Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA).

The completion of the projects, three months ahead of the planned 30 months, has improved accessibility within the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region and Anansu in the Western North Region, and forms part of preparatory works for the massive revival of bauxite mining in the enclave.

According to the Vice-President, other projects under the various Lots, such as the Tamale Interchange (Lot 3), Upgrading of Selected Roads in Western Region and Cape Coast (Lot 7), and Rehabilitation of the Hohoe-Jasikan-Dodo-Pepesu Road, all part of the Eastern Corridor Road Network (Lot 10), have reached advanced levels. They were expected to be commissioned by the second quarter of 2022.
