Economic Challenges: President Said Nothing About Galamsey And Corruption During His Address – Dr Nyaho Tamakloe

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, Ghanaian Statesman and Politician

Founding Member of the ruling New Patrotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, has criticized His Exellency, President Akuffo Addo, for failing to mention the dangers of corruption and illegal small scale mining in his address to Ghanaians on the hardship and economic instability in the country.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe who was speaking in a media interview on November 2, stated that the country was losing a lot of money because of illegal small scale mining (galamsey) and Akuffo Addo failed to mention it during his address on Sunday, October 30.

He further noted that corruption , which the President also failed to mention, is one of the major causes of the current economic downturn Ghanaians are battling with.

According to the politician, 70 percent of the problems in the country now, ranging from high cost of living, cedi depreciation to high prices of petroleum products are caused by corruption.

“One thing that was surprising is that the President did not talk about galamsey when he was addressing the nation. He should have taken the opportunity to touch on the sensitive areas that have run the economy down.

“He also failed to touch on the issue of corruption which really shocked me. And that was what I was expecting Akuffo Addo to address.”

Dr Nyaho

Dr Nyaho indicated that if these issues are addressed and put right, the country will have no problem. He emphasized that there is corruption right from the office of the President to various homes, which is making things more difficult as the day goes by.

President Refused To Meet Two Generals On Security Threat To Ghana

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe alleged that President Akuffo Addo refused to meet two retired generals, namely, General Brigadier Joseph Nunoo-Mensah and General Napoleon Ashley-Lassen, over a pressing security issue.

According to him, the generals, who both served the nation as Chief of Defence staff, wanted to inform the President of a potential security threat to Ghana, but Akuffo Addo did not give them attention, which he described as a shame.

“Believe me or not, two retired generals have both watched carefully about a couple of months ago, and they realised security was at its lowest end.

“They wanted to see the President, but the President refused to see them and this happened this very year. They have experience and they wanted to see you the President. Where on this planet will any President refuse to see such top people.”

Dr Nyaho

He further asked the President to come out and deny what he allegedly said, as the generals knew that things were going bad in the country, and wanted to whisper in his ears or tell him what to do so that there will be calm in the country.

Dr Tamakloe previously alleged that, but for the intervention of the NPP MPs, Ghana was on the verge of experiencing a military coup.

In his opinion, the call for the dismissal of the Finance Minister wiped away the plot.

He advised the President to learn from this development as the actions of the NPPs are unprecedented.

“Those who made this intervention have saved the 4th republic. We were getting close to military intervention, but the MPs actions totally wiped it off, and I think the country should learn from that as well.”
