The Economy Has Been Mismanaged- Joyce Bawah Mogtari

The economy has been mismanaged by the government.

Special Aide to Former President Mahama, Joyce Bawah.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Lawyer and Special Aide to Former President John Mahama, has stated that the economy of Ghana has been mismanaged by the government, with nothing remaining which is a reality that cannot be avoided.

According to her, the economy has collapsed and the country is literally bankrupt and only the hungry people of Ghana know what it feels like to live in this current state of the country.

She noted that whenever individuals, particularly the youth, express their displeasure towards the government, some individuals always rebuke their actions or find something to say about it.

“The hungry people in Ghana know what it feels like to walk in the fields in which they are currently walking. They understand what hunger means literally, and they appreciate what poverty means. If I were to reiterate, to announce, and to report the numbers of people who are literally now begging maybe, we’ll sit here for fifty days.”

Joyce Bawah Mogtari

Joyce indicated that, former President John Dramani Mahama was ‘demonized’ during his tenure of office by the same people who are currently in government, and are now asking the people for sympathy.

She stated that the finance minister benefits vicariously from most of the borrowings undertaken by the country through his company, Data Bank.

“Our finance minister is one of the few gentlemen, who benefits and profits by way of his company vicariously, from most of the borrowings that we have currently undertaken. [The fact] that he is even finance minister at this time and his company will still be acting in that capacity is within itself, untenable.”

John Mahama Was Incapable Of Doing The Things He Suggested

Meanwhile, on the same show, Akosua Manu, Deputy CEO for the National Youth Authority, stated that Former President John Mahama had the chance to do all the things he suggested to help the current government curb the issues that the country is facing but he was unable to do so.

According to her, the Former President has admitted that the Russian-Ukraine war and the Covid pandemic have gravely affected the continent. However, at a time where the people needed answers in times of crisis during his regime, his posture was that of a ‘dead goat.’

She also made reference to a tweet from the former President sometime ago, when he took a screenshot of a news item that spoke about a man who committed suicide due to the heightened economic hardships in the country.

“Now, sometimes there’s a certain narrative that when people go at leaders or what nots, it is people mobilizing them to do so. Sometimes, it’s pure organic anger, where people from their side even said ‘how dare you compare a suicide and link it to the times we’re in?’ The take out from that particular incident sadly, was that, if it had been his time, the young man climbing the pole will still be alive because there will not be any power for him to be electrocuted .”

Akosua Manu

Akosua Manu explained that the former President’s reaction to that tweet was insensitive, and he was still showing this behavior even as an opposition leader.
However, she believed that there was no posture of insensitivity and arrogance from President Akuffo Addo, since he acknowledged the situation of the country and how it was going to be turned around.
