Togbe Afede

Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, has advised the 2022 graduates of the University of Health And Allied Sciences(UHAS) to forgo the urgent lust for money and rather work hard to become agents of change for their communities and country as a whole.

Speaking at the 7th congregation ceremony of UHAS at Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana, Togbe Afede disclosed that success and wealth are achieved through hard work, honesty and perseverance, emphasizing that riches acquired through fraudulent means come with no honour.

The Agbogbomefia of Asogli noted that the current economic and development challenges facing the country may look overwhelming, but the challenges also provide opportunities for the graduates to be innovative and use their liberated minds from the education they have acquired to address those challenges.

Togbe Afede further stated that, university degrees serve little purpose if they did not help to meet the aspirations of the community.

“Therefore, you must focus on things that matter to the people and not the desire to attain money, expensive cars and massive houses with money cash from dubious sources.”

Togbe Afede

Togbe Afede also opined that greed among the citizenry is not helping to address one of the needs of the country, which is debt-ridden, but rather projecting a dark future for the people. To reverse that trend, the traditional ruler, encouranged the fresh graduates to lead a vigorous campaign to inspire Ghanaians to cut their coats according to their sizes and embrace a life of modesty.

Throwing more light on wealth creation, Togbe Afede revealed that it is time Ghanaians sacrifice a bit of their sleep and put more time in serving the nation with great zeal and enthusiasm. “Poverty is created in bed, and you cannot sleep as if you are competing with the dead and expect success to come your way,” he emphasized.

The Agbogbomefia disclosed that Africa has enough natural resources to create wealth for its people, with innovation and appropriate development policies from the state.

Education Minister Commends UHAS

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education commended UHAS for attaining a high standard as a university in international circles within a decade.

The Minister, gave an assurance that the Akuffo Addo led government would take the necessary steps to address the infrastructural deficits of UHAS sooner than later.

Mr Adutwum also entreated the fresh graduates to be humble in their practice, adding that a certificate without a good attitude by the holder would be meaningless.

The Minister indicated that the government would continue to invest massively in education, without which the country would not move forward.

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) was established by an Act of Parliament (Act 828 in December, 2011) and envisioned to become a pre-eminent research and practically oriented health educational institution dedicated to community service. The main campus, including the central administration, is in Ho. A second campus is located in Hohoe. The university began operation in September 2012 with 154 students.

The School, is the first public university to be established in the Volta Region of Ghana and is, so far, the only state university in Ghana that is wholly dedicated to the training of healthcare professionals.

UHAS sets high standards of behaviour, promoting traditional values which underpin life-long learning and achievement. UHAS also seeks to be a pre-eminent health research educational institution dedicated to community service. Its mission is to provide quality education, advance knowledge through scholarship and research that improves health and quality of life.
