We Won’t Allow Akufo-Addo To Expand His Administration Size Any Further – Ato Forson Warns

NDC national executives to meet Minority Caucus over reshuffle

The newly elected Minority Leader in Parliament Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has issued a stern warning to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his large government size. He said the National Democratic Congress’ MPs won’t allow President Akufo-Addo to further increase his government size which they believe is already bloated.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson gave this warning in one of his public addresses after his appointment as Minority Leader. He spoke outwardly as an individual in his right senses and in the right position to address such a matter.

“I wish to, first of all, send a message to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), that the people of Ghana are calling on them to downsize their government to reflect the mood of the country before you ask people to forego their coupons or interests, asking the ordinary Ghanaian to sacrifice his payout.

“If the President [Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo] intends to reshuffle his government, let it be known that we in the NDC will not accept an attempt to increase the size of government. And if the current size of his ministers is increased by one person, that person will not receive our cooperation.”

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson

The newly elected Minority Leader in parliament claimed that there have been several calls for the government to cut down on its appointees in the wake of the current economic crisis but all such pleas have been ignored and aired.

Dr. Forson further warned that any additions of appointees by the government will face stiff opposition from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in parliament. He opined that any proposed government reshuffle should reflect the economic situation of the country.

Keep Calm, We Will Work In Due Diligence

Leadership of the Minority in Parliament is allaying the fears of members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who feel uneasy about the recent changes. Dr. Ato Forson assures the NDC to keep calm and look towards the future with hopes of things ending well.

Newly-elected Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, stated that his team is bent on reuniting its members in the House to pursue a common agender while calling on cool heads to prevail, that there is no need for a division amongst themselves.

Dr. Ato Forson made this comment after taking over from Haruna Iddrisu as leader of the minority caucus, a move that has divided the NDC legislators. But amid the controversies that followed the decision, he explained that due diligence would be the hallmark of his leadership.

“Obviously, we are not new in this house. I’ve been in this house for 14 years. I know the capabilities of all our colleagues. Some I met; some came to meet me. I have worked closely with most of our colleagues and I can assure you that together we shall succeed.”

The Ajumako-Enya-Essiam MP further assured to represent the collective interest of the party and advised the rank and file of the party to keep calm.

“We want the rank and file of the party to keep calm, Members of Parliament are in good terms. As a leader, it will be my duty to represent our collective goals with unwavering dedication and high integrity.”

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson

The NDC earlier this week reshuffled its leadership in Parliament replacing Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu with Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson which caused a ruckus in the political party with several NDC MPs including MP for Bolgatanga East, Dominic Ayine and Tamale Central MP, Murtala Muhammed later described the leadership changes as undemocratic and deeply worrying, after they claimed they were not consulted prior to the change.
