Ghana Launches Its Agribusiness Partnership With EU To Increase Investment

Ghana, EU launches Agribusiness Platform

The European Union (EU) in partnership with the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana has launched the Ghana-EU Agribusiness Platform.

The platform seeks to serve as a convenient space for agribusiness actors and stakeholders in Ghana and the EU, to connect and exchange for a wider business and partnership opportunities.

 The Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana, Mr. Anthony Morrison, speaking at the launch of the program assured that there will be a 50 percent discount for the first 100 companies to sign up onto the platform.

According to Mr. Morrison, the Ghana-EU Agribusiness project will look at companies or businesses that are legally registered.

“Today, we have a platform that has been set up to promote agribusiness, technology, investments and trade among others. Our expectations are that this platform will transform and enhance the credibility of Ghanaian and African businesses.

“Also, any business that signs up ought to belong to any of the recognised associations. There’s a discount of 50 percent for the first 100 companies to sign up onto the platform and it’s applicable to anyone.”

Treasurer of the European Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Andrea Ghia pointed out some benefits Ghanaian companies would gain from the European markets when they sign up onto the platform.

“We know very well that the agriculture sector is the most active and grows much better compared to other sectors. This was proven during the covid-19 pandemic.

“The sector has potentials in terms of quantity, quality, and skills improvement. Although there’s no direct exemption or benefit on the platform, through the platform you can access information from the West.”

Ghana, EU Agribusiness Overall Objective

The authorities during the launch of the program disclosed that the overall objective of the support project is to increase the private investment in the agribusiness sector and make the most out of the public investment in the sector through the creation of the EU-Ghana Agribusiness Platform and, thereby, contribute to sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in Ghana.

According to them, the two-fold purposes of this support project is to identify the options, prepare related work plans for the establishment and operationalization of the EU-Ghana Agribusiness Platform. “The project aims to increase the viability and shared understanding of the Platform among the Key stakeholders and Core Group,” they stated.

The Ghana-EU Agribusiness Platform is funded by the European Union and managed by the European Chamber of Commerce in Ghana in partnership with the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana.

The Platform is created as part of the broader vision of establishing the AU-EU Agri-Food Platform envisaged to be an instrument to catalyse sustainable and inclusive investments in agriculture on the African continent.

The Support Project will utilize the services of two contracted experts to provide a range of highly-specialized technical services to the European Business Organization-Ghana (EBO Ghana) and its key stakeholders.

These services include; consultations with agri-food sector community which involves all actors across the agri-food value chain, relevant institutions and stakeholders as required, provision of the key technical support as stipulated in the Terms of Reference and the preparation of technical reports in the areas covered by the Terms of Reference.
