The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has rejected any possibility of becoming a running mate of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, if he fails in his bid and the latter wins the contest.

Appearing on Metro TV this week, the Assin Central Member of Parliament, avowed his resolve to go through the contest to the finish but emphasized that he will not be a running mate should he lose.

“I will support him (Bawumia) as a New Patriotic Party member, I will support him for his campaign but I do not want to be his running mate,” he stated. When the flag-bearer hopeful was asked by Paul Adom Otchere, on what his contribution will be to a Bawumia campaign if the Vice President wins the race, Kennedy Agyapong replied that he would still go ahead and support his campaign but maintained that he will not be his running mate no matter what the outcome would be.

“If I don’t win, I am a party member; I am a party member and I will help,” he stated.

Meanwhile, prominent names that have popped up in the National Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership race such as the likes of; Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Agric Minister, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and the past Member of Parliament for the Offinso North constituency, Kofi Konadu Apraku. The latest to join the race was Addai-Nimoh, the former Member of Parliament who declared his intention to contest the NPP’s flagbearership this week.

Although the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is yet to officially announce his bid, he has been tipped as the lead candidate in the race due to his current position as the current Vice President of Ghana. The Vice President position alone assures him some advantage of becoming an eligible flag-bearer of the NPP because his works are recognized by the public. As the saying goes, ‘leadership is not by words, show working.’

Nyaho-Tamakloe Declares Support For Addai-Nimoh

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a Ghanaian football administrator, politician and one of the founding members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has endorsed Francis Addai-Nimoh’s bid to become flagbearer ahead of NPP’s presidential and parliamentary primaries geared towards the 2024 general elections.

According to the NPP stalwart, Addai-Nimoh is a unifier who does not come with the political baggage of ethnicity and religion yet remains a formidable candidate who can lead the NPP into the next elections. He claimed that the NPP needed a unifier; one who could bring every single member of the party together, including the Members of Parliament because a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

The founding member of the NPP advised that it would be wise for the party to consider the candidature of Francis Addai-Nimoh at this crucial time when the party needs someone to help them ‘break the eight.

“Now let me warn the delegates, I want the delegates to be very careful because if you miss this man, you will regret it terribly. This is a man with enormous experience, and he understands governance, this is a man who is peaceful and will not run this country down the drain, and this is a man the whole country should follow.”

“You see me here today because when I see Addai-Nimoh, I know we still have some hope in our party. This is a man of integrity, accountability, humility, and professionalism,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe recounted.
