I Was Ousted In NPP Because I Was Ambitious And Tough– Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has disclosed that his ousting from the party some years ago, was orchestrated by comrades who misunderstood his style of leadership. He said he came off to his comrades, as an individual who was too ambitious and tough.

According to him, he was characterized by being an upright and uptight person, one who was difficult to compromise and had his eyes only on one prize; strengthening the party. He claimed to have had no other ulterior motive, as a member of the party.

This, he said, made him look as though he had betrayed the party following; which some individuals took upon themselves to level some untrue allegations and “vile propaganda” against him.

“Everybody who has worked with me knows that I believe in propriety. I am not one that can be manipulated easily, I am ramrod straight. I believe in being frank and honest and straight and I wanted to build a strong party. I do believe that Ghana needs strong parties.

“I think some people did not understand my posture and felt that perhaps I was a bit too ambitious or too tough, and so they engineered my ouster with very flimsy allegations.”

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

Mr. Agyepong, stated that he dedicated his youth to serving the party when it needed people to step up and therefore, only sought to build a stronger party when he became the General Secretary, but that idea was foiled by the plans of others.

He added that he was disappointed with some of the elders of the party in the wake of the orchestrated ouster; saying he had worked with them several times and also because, they had ample knowledge of his character and the kind of person he was.

According to the politician, he was one of the leading members helping in the campaign of current President of the reigning party, NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in 1998. He revealed that the ouster was one of his lowest points in politics, as he was not expectant of such a tragedy in his own life, as a leading member of the party.

Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong joins the long queue of NPP flagbearer aspirants who seek to contest the Presidency in the upcoming general election in 2024. He contests against the likes of Dr. Mahumudu Bawumia; the current Vice President of Ghana, Alan Kerematen, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and many other key figures of the political party.

A New Generational Leader

He posits that Ghana needs a new dawn of politics, an understanding of public service and, bring to the public’s thoughts, that the narrative of politicians getting into office, only to feed the fat on the national treasure should be a changed mentality amongst the people.

This, he said would change only if “a new generational leader” takes charge. The flagbearer hopeful said something needs to be done to inspire Ghanaians, to have a stronger belief system in the government at hand.

He claimed that the reason behind he saying Ghanaians needed to be re-inspired, was because he highly believed that the belief in governance and political architecture of the state, in the eyes of Ghanaians had waned. According to him, it is a danger to the country, should the youth detach themselves from politics because who would then be trained to take over from them, as the next generation of leaders.

Explaining further, he said that the narrative that citizens aspire to exhibit similar corrupt deeds of politicians, if they assume public offices, needed to be corrected, saying, who best to do it than someone who has been in leadership.
