Reports Of The President Engaging In Galamsey Activities Untrue– Kyebi Traditional Council

Chief of Kyebi, Osabarima Marfo Kwabrane

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, former Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, has been highly demanded by the Kyebi Traditional Council, to prove that galamsey occurred in the President’s House in Kyebi in the Eastern Region.

On the word of the Traditional Council, the claims in Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report, should be dismissed with contempt, as it a false accusation. It claimed that the President was innocent of all such allegations.

The Traditional Council challenged Prof Frimpong-Boateng, when it took some journalists around the President’s home to show them proof of no such activities of ‘galamsey’ in or around the house. The Council therefore, requested that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng appears before it to corroborate his galamsey report.

“He should come and show us where he saw galamsey happening. He should come here and prove to us and the whole world. My nephew [President] is not part of that thing [galamsey]. We need Prof. Frimpong-Boateng himself to come and show us where President Akufo-Addo was doing galamsey and correct our statement that all that we have said is wrong.”

Moreover, claims that galamsey activities led to the destruction of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s fence wall in Kyebi, was fervently denied by the Kyebi Traditional Council.

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng in his report alleged that galamsey activities close to the President’s Kyebi residence, affected parts of his garden, which had to be quickly put back in shape by the Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

Speaking to the media present, Osabarima Marfo Kwabre claimed the reports made mention of are untrue and only machinations to tarnish the President’s image.

“There is nothing like that here and that is why I am here with the Kyebi executives, and we are to ensure that we clear the president’s name. The reports of the president engaging in galamsey activities are not true.”

He added that the reports have left the Traditional Council in a state of discomfort.

Moreover, the neighbours of the president added their opinions to the issue at hand and also denied the allegations, indicating that they have never seen illegal mining activities close to the president’s garden.

As stated by Osabarima Marfo Kwabre, the reports have left the Traditional Council in a very tight spot because it cannot believe why Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng would make such reports against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“We are very uncomfortable that a man who has struggled for over 45 years to build his name, is now being destroyed, as he is preparing to leave the presidency, and it is very bad.”

He therefore called on Professor Frimpong-Boateng to come out to back his allegations with evidence, to prove to the Traditional Council that there were indeed illegal mining activities close to the President’s residence.

“He [Professor Frimpong-Boateng] should come here and prove to us that the president was engaged in galamsey, and we expect him to come here and prove to us.”
