NDC Primaries: NDC To Audit 47 Constituencies In Ashanti Region Before Saturday

The Ashanti Regional regional branch of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set up a special office at the party’s regional office in Kumasi to audit and confirm the party’s delegates album for its primaries on May 13, credibility.

The move has become needful following some concerns raised by the Party’s Flagbearer hopeful Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s team over the credibility of the voters’ album, after his research team’s audit of the various constituencies’ album.

This special audit, which is said to have the blessing of the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is expected to check and correct any error in the album to ensure smooth and successful organization of Flagbearer and Parliamentary primaries across the country, on Saturday 13th May 2023, to avoid any possible confusion.

The party believes, successful outcome of Saturday’s elections will send a strong signal to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that they are seeking to unseat in elections 2024.

Manhyia South NDC Threatens To Secure Injunction Against Primaries After 48 Hours

Branch Executives and Ward Coordinators of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region have threatened to place an injunction on the May 13 primaries of the party.

The 452 delegates in the constituency will not take part in Saturday’s Parliamentary and Presidential primaries, owing to some internal issues. The aggrieved party members have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the National Executives Committee (NEC) to lift the suspension that will deny them from partaking in the primaries or face their wrath.

Addressing the media, CPC Krofrom Ward Coordinator and convenor, Yaw Appiah, said they may be forced to injunct the primaries if their concern is not addressed.

“We, the leaders of all the branches, would like to inform the National Executives Committee and Functional Executives Committee to remove the suspension of branch executives that bars these delegates to partake in the 13th May primaries within 48 hours. Failure to do so will leave us with no option than to seek legal redress…We will secure court injunction.”

NDC Not To Hold Parliamentary Primaries In Assin North

Constituents in Assin North have not had a fair representation in parliament, since Member of Parliament for the constituency, James Gyakye Quayson, won the seat.

In the early month of 2021, the petitioner, Michael Ankomah Nimfah went to court to contend that James Quayson held dual citizenship as a Ghanaian and a Canadian at the time of his election, and therefore, must be restrained from performing the duties of a Member of Parliament.

In April 2022, the Supreme Court had restrained James Gyakye Quayson from holding himself as the Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency in the Central Region. Mr. Quayson was restrained by a ruling delivered by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

Since this ruling, the Member of Parliament has been restrained from entering the chamber, causing the constituents to have no representation in parliament Ahead of the parliamentary election scheduled for May 13, 2023, the party has taken a decision to allow the MP remain as its parliamentary aspirant. Sources claim that based on this decision, there will not be any parliamentary election in the constituency and the MP will continue with his case.
