NDC Presidential Race: John Mahama Should Pull Out- Kojo Bonsu

Former Kumasi Mayor and NDC flagbearer hopeful, Kojo Bonsu.

A flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress, Kojo Bonsu, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be on the lookout for former President John Mahama in the 2024 election, following his resounding win as a flagbearer of the party.

According to him, the former President’s win at the primaries is an indication that Ghanaians are ready for a change in leadership as the incumbent government has failed woefully.

“Now that our elections are over, first, I wish to congratulate H.E John Dramani Mahama for emerging victorious at the end of the day. His landslide victory is a resounding and clear warning the ruling government that the NDC together with millions of disappointed floating voters shall cause change at the polls in December 2024.”

Commenting on the outcome of the primaries, the rejected NDC flagearer aspirant called on party members to unite and join the mission to rescue Ghana from the New Patriotic Party. To this end, he entreated Dr. Kwabena Duffour to consider the great value he adds and join forces with the party to wrestle power from the “nation-wrecking” NPP.

COCOBOD must Adapt, not Disappear — Finance Ministry Advisor Defends COCOBOD’s Existence

“Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the electioneering process and the outcome of the election itself, we must now all join the rescue mission of liberating our mother Ghana from the modern-day imperialism and colonialism practiced in a benevolent democracy under this NPP government.”

Buttressing his point, Mr Bonsu explained that what lies ahead of the party is “far bigger than any spilled milk”. As such, he noted that the party cannot afford to lose any single effort going into the 2024 general elections and must be relentless in its united pursuit of victory.

“Together, we shall be invincible.”

Kojo Bonsu boasts of decent, clean campaign

Furthermore, Mr Bonsu explained that since the official opening of the campaign period, he along his team have run a decent, clean and honest campaign devoid of insults, malice and acrimony. Owing to this, he revealed that if there has been any negative press attributed to his campaign, then it has been the handicraft of propaganda operators.

It will be recalled that on May 11, the campaign team of one of the flagbearer aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo Bonsu, indicated that the team will do all within its power to ensure the concerns raised about some discrepancies in the party’s voter register are resolved before voting.

Mohammed Alhassan, a spokesperson for the team, revealed that the Kojo Bonsu campaign team supported the decision of Dr. Kwabena Duffuor to injunct the election, in order to compel the party to have the issues resolved to ensure a free and fair elections. Mr. Alhassan iterated that there were discrepancies which must be resolved before the elections and if the discrepancies could not be resolved before the elections, then the elections should be postponed.

The primaries by the NDC to elect its representatives for parliamentary and the flagbearer hit a snag when Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s campaign team in a letter to the General Secretary of the NDC, called the party to postpone the presidential and parliamentary primaries which was scheduled for May 13, 2023, over alleged irregularities in the delegates’ album.

Madam Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commission Chairperson at a meeting declared that in order that the EC is not cited for contempt, the Commission had taken the decision not to supervise the conduct of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections until after the determination of the case by the court.

Subsequently, a meeting between the EC and the NDC to address outstanding issues ahead of Saturday’s primaries was cancelled by the election management body. That notwithstanding, Dr Duffuor later withdrew from the flagbearer race.
