NDC Has A Successful History In Kumawu– Yamin

Party executives including National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Organiser Joseph Yamin, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and others are already in the district campaigning day and night in an effort to unseat the ruling New Patriotic Party (INPP), which has held the Kumawu Parliamentary seat since 1992.

In an interview prior to the by-election, Joseph Yamin, the NDC’s national organizer, expressed confidence that the party had chosen the ideal candidate who would bridge all political differences and win the seat for the NDC.

“Our candidate is a local man who is a direct relative of the late Philip Basoah. After campaigning with him in the constituency, I’m confident we will win the seat. The NPP achievements in the Sekyere Kumawu district in the last 6-7 years is the overnight construction of roads to buy votes in the by-election.

“They have nothing to show in the district. We were building a District hospital for the district which was about 70% complete, they have abandoned the project. We gave Kumawu potable drinking water for the first time. What can the NPP show in the constituency as a government in power for Kumawu?”

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, and his staff have been living in the constituency for the past seven days, in order to conduct campaigns there. To make sure his party wins the election, he has been going from house to house.

Big wigs from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including National Chairman Stephen Ntim, National Organizer Nana Boakye, Chief of Staff Fremah Opare, and Kennedy Agyapong, accompanied the Wontumi-led campaign team in the constituency to advocate for the party.

When inspecting nocturnal road construction in the constituency, Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta, denied building roads to solicit votes before the election. He said that the late MP Philip Atta Basoah had an impact on the roads project.

“We are not constructing Kumawu district roads because of the by-election. It was part of the project we were doing in the Kwabre East constituency. It is rather unfortunate that the project started three days after the demise of the MP. We are constructing the project to honour him for his work to the party and his constituency.”

New Kumawu Projects Not To Sway Voters For By-Election

Allegations that recent infrastructure improvements in the Kumawu Constituency are intended to sway voters ahead of the by-election, have been refuted by the government.

The town has undergone substantial growth in the last few days, after years of no notable improvements. Numerous previously unpaved roads in the region have been paved, and additional road development is presently in progress.

The new construction projects in the area are perceived as vote buying by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some locals.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako Atta, told reporters that these initiatives were already underway and were not a direct result of the upcoming by-election.

“The entire road project had already been procured for the contractor. The people of this area, from Juaben to Kumawu will be living witnesses of what is going to happen after the bye-election of May 23.

“They will see whether the contractor is going to stop work or not, and it will put to shame all this false information.”
