Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, feels confident in his ability to become the party’s flagbearer.

This was announced by his team after picking up his nomination paperwork on Thursday at the NPP headquarters in Accra.

Since the party launched nominations, the flagbearer candidate who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, is the eighth individual to pick up the nomination forms.

Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign manager, Kwame Owusu, said in an interview that the party’s grassroots are drawn to the candidate because of his “disciplinary nature.”

“We believe in the grassroots. The people are excited about what honourable Ken stands for. Honourable Ken does not stand for indiscipline. Honourable is honest in terms of his dealing with the country. Honourable Ken is patriotic that he will die for Ghana, and he has demonstrated that.

“So, most of the time if you hear him talking loudly or making a case, it is what people will come in and say that he is not conforming. Of course, he is not conforming because he stands for the ordinary people and ordinary people are not conformists.”

Kwame Owusu

Mr. Kwame Owusu claimed that the public wants someone who is disciplined because there is too much indiscipline in this nation, adding that this would give Ken Agyapong an advantage over his rivals.

“Indiscipline leads to corruption and once you see a man that you believe is honest, and you are going to work for him, it has to be at the back of your mind that whatever you do you are going to face the whip very squarely.”

Alan Kyerematen Thanks Market Queens For Picking Nomination Forms

Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen thanked Market Queens for picking the presidential nomination forms of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for him to contest in the upcoming internal elections of the governing party.

In a tweet, he said “I am humbled and grateful to the incredible market Queens who have generously contributed to my pursuit in leading the NPP into victory in 2024. Your resolute support and belief in my vision for our great nation is truly inspiring.”

On May 31, a group of Market Queens picked up Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s nomination papers as a sign of support for the NPP flagbearer candidate. On November 4, the team, renowned for its grassroots mobilization initiatives, paid the Ghc50,000 entry fee necessary for Mr. Kyerematen to take part in the upcoming presidential primary elections.

By taking this measure, the Market Queens kept a promise they made to Kyerematen in January 2022. The group’s head, Madam Sarkina, declared that they were ready to support Mr. Kyerematen’s campaign because of his familiarity with the concerns of market women and his background as a former Trade Minister.

The Queens have previously given cement and quarry stones to the Kumasi Race Course Market Women, so this is not the first time they have offered their assistance.

They spoke with the directors of the Kumasi Central Market during their discussions as well, pushing the market ladies to support Mr. Kyerematen and noting his accomplishments while serving in the Trades and Industry Ministry as arguments in favor of doing so.

Comfort Serwaa, the union’s leader in Kumasi, said they chose to pay Mr. Kyerematen’s nomination fee as a sign of their confidence in his qualifications to lead this country.

“We decided that we won’t allow Mr Kyerematen to pick his forms, we will put resources together and pay the fee for him. So, we are here to pick the forms for Alan so he can become the President of Ghana.”
