Government’s spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has revealed that the Ghanaian economy is recovering.

According to him, the economy has gone through such tough times in the past and it’s only beginning to experience progress. He indicated that although there is palpable difficulty with people trying to get by, government remains committed to ensuring a more stable economy.

“If I’m supposed to describe Ghana, I will describe Ghana from a Ghanaian perspective of an economy that is recovering. An economy that is recovering from global impact, an economy that is recovering from excessive impact that has come as a result of global indicators and exogenous factors.”

Palgrave Boakye-Danquah

Mr Boakye-Danquah stated that the reality for government is that it is not blind to efforts exhibited by Ghanaians in surviving. This, he explained, is the reason why the IMF’s first $600 million tranche has come in to handle some of the issues confronting the country.

Government committed to road construction and repairs

Commenting on some stalled road works which are relatively posing danger to commuters in the country such as the Junction Mall interchange, coupled with resurfacing of potholes due to recurring rainfall, Mr Boaky-Danquah conceded to the delay. He however indicated that government is doing its best to address them.

“Roads works is enormous and our government has sought to ensure that we have built roads… There’s a construction that is going on at the Junction Mall, we are building these interchanges… There’s construction ongoing and usually when that happens, there will be some challenge as it relates to water gathering. Our government is going to tackle all these roads which is already budgeted for.”

Palgrave Boakye-Danquah

Furthermore, he revealed that there are a number of parchment roads that are ongoing now. As such, one cannot take the issues out of context and say government is neglecting these roads.

“So, a number of these constructions, even on the Pokuase-Nsawam lane, there’s huge construction that is ongoing. I can appreciate these issues but we have launched the year of roads considerably to ensure the various road challenges, road networks and parchments that need to be done will be taken care of.”

Palgrave Boakye-Danquah

Touching on the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections, the government’s spokesperson stated that he is confident the party will win the election. He indicated that the NPP has done much in terms of infrastructural developments and industrialization to win the votes of Ghanaians.

“The NPP has exceeded much of what we even said we would do. We put together 16 flagship programs from 2017. Free SHS, One District, One Factory, Digitalization of the Ghanaian economy is the thread within which the economy strives. We’ve digitalize ports and harbor, we’ve digitalized DVLA, we’ve digitalized passports, births and deaths – every single child that is born now will have a unique number from birth till death… We are building Agenda 111, which are at various stages of completion, we’ve done considerably, a number of roads, highways, parchment roads.”

Palgrave Boakye-Danquah

Moreover, Mr Boakye-Danquah revealed that government has among other interventions, built assembly plants in Ghana. Also, he stated that in terms of education, there has been the introduction of STEM to enable young people have the opportunity to start their dream career even at young age.

“So, the number of success the Ghanaian economy has chalked is enormous… I think that the impact is felt by the Ghanaian people. The 1D1F, the impact is felt by the Ghanaian people… Businesses under the One District, One Factory are stirivng. There’s a shoe factory under the One District, One Factory…”
