Boakye Agyarko, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged for fairness in the selection of the party’s Presidential candidate for the general elections in 2024.

According to the former Energy Minister, the elections would be peaceful as long as they are fairly conducted.

He added that all parties interested in the elections must be aware of the rules of engagement in order to participate in the next Presidential primaries of the ruling party. He emphasized these on Monday, June 19, when he submitted his nomination paperwork at the NPP headquarters.

He said, “This is an internal family thing…So long as the rules are clear, so long as there is total fairness, so long as we are all measured in our statements, I believe that we will have a peaceful election.”

Boakye Agyarko, a contender for the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer position, urged the party to take action against flagbearer candidates who are flouting election regulations. He highlighted the significance of obeying the laws and standards to ensure an impartial and open election process.

Speaking on the subject, Mr. Boakye Agyarko stressed how crucial it is for all candidates to adhere to the laws and rules without coming off as “a fly in the jar.” He continued by saying that there had been numerous provocations, as well as numerous rule violations that went unpunished. “I have even raised the matter at the National Council,” he added.

However, Agyarko was encouraged by Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of elections, to inform the proper committees of any instances of candidates violating election rules. Agyarko was also given the reassurance by Nimako that the party will address the issues, once they were brought up.

Konadu Apraku Finally Re-submits Nomination Forms

After being requested by the NPP’s elections committee to amend his nomination paperwork, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a candidate for the party’s flagbearer position, has at long last submitted his completed forms.

Dr. Apraku was ordered to complete his documents and resubmit them to the party’s elections committee after visiting the party’s office in the morning on Monday, June 19, 2023, to submit his forms.

According to earlier inspection by the elections committee, the forms formally, had not been entirely filled out. Members of the team later disclosed that the nomination document filed did not contain essential materials, such as his resume and personal contributions to the party.

After he failed to turn in completed nomination forms for the NPP Presidential Primaries, he was rescheduled for a different time. However, a few hours after the incident, the former Trade Minister came back with finished forms.

After completing his paperwork, he told the media that there were laws “that require us to send [the forms], including our documents, our vision, and we did not know about it.”

“We didn’t ignore but we just did not know. So, we did not bring the document and they asked us to go and bring it. We brought it and everything is okay. We have submitted the document.”

In preparation for screening and voting for the Special Congress in August, the party has set Saturday, June 24 as the deadline for nominations. Five candidates have already turned in their applications. They are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Alan Kyerematen, Boakye Agyarko, and Dr. Apraku.
