Assin North By-Elections: Gyakye Quayson To Win Election Even In Prison- Michael Afranie

Michael Afranie, Kumawood Actor

Michael Afranie, a Kumawood actor, has said that James Gyakye Quayson would keep the party’s seat in Assin North no matter what the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) does.

He claimed he has no concern that citizens will support him heavily in the by-election on June 27, 2023, even if he is imprisoned and serving time prior to that date.

If proven guilty of the criminal perjury accusations, the former Assin North constituency MP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate could spend 10 years in jail performing hard labor.

He is charged with running in the constituency’s 2020 parliamentary election as a dual citizen. His name has been ordered to be removed from the list of lawmakers, according a Supreme Court decision.

The well-known Kumawood actor, who is also a supporter of the NDC, asserted that Assin North residents will make an informed choice because they have seen the cruel treatment meted out to their former MP by President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.

“Even if James Gyakye Quayson is in prison, the people of Assin North Constituency are eager to give him victory by voting massively for him. NPP can share all the rice in Ghana and goodies but they will still lose the elections. Assin North Constituency is different from Kumawu Constituency where NPP won the bye-elections after sharing rice, gari and money.

He emphasizes that the NPP will not win in Assin North as it did in the Kumawu Constituency because of the differences in the two constituencies. Additionally, he said that Assin North residents will base their voting decisions on the level of growth they had seen under James Gyakye Quayson’s leadership.

“It is not true that James Gyakye Quayson will be imprisoned so NPP members should stop spreading this propaganda. No amount of propaganda can give NPP victory at Assin North Constituency.”

Vote Buying In Assin North Constituency

The two main political parties have accused each other of trying to influence voters in the impending Assin North by-election by giving electorates presents and money.

Each side in the blame game between the government’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) insists the other is employing dishonest methods to win.

Prior to the by-election in Assin North on Tuesday, June 27, Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP’s Director of Communications accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of buying votes.

Mr. Ahiagbah said that while the NPP is concentrated on winning votes and canvassing the constituency, its opponent (the NDC) is giving out gifts.

“Now, watch them deny and point false accusing fingers at others after doing this. The NPP is focused and canvassing for the votes we need for victory on June 27th.”

Richard Ahiagbah

However, Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC also accused the NPP of vote buying. He stated that the NPP is buying votes through the sharing of fertilizers and state-owned knapsack sprayers.

“Corrupt NPP government desperately seeking to buy votes in Assin North with state-owned knapsack sprayers and fertilizers,” he stated in a Facebook post.

“Consignment currently en route to Ningo, Gangan, Ayittey and other NDC strongholds. The team is led by NPP National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, General Secretary, Justin Kodua and other bigwigs of the ruling party. See the attached videos for hardcore evidence of how taxpayers monies are being abused for election purposes by the failed Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government.”
