Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the representative for Ablekuma West, has urged women who are forced by their spouses to have oral and anal sex to report the instances to the police for aid.

The MP highlighted that anal sex is prohibited, regardless of the gender of the participants during her address on the promotion of appropriate sexual human rights and the Ghanaian family values bill.

Concerned about some spouses receiving divorce threats from their husbands for refusing to partake in such sexual behaviors, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful voiced her worry. She emphasized the significance of the suggested bill in resolving these problems.

“For the avoidance of doubt and the information of all Ghanaians, oral sex, anal sex, regardless of whether it is between woman and man, man and man or woman and woman is illegal under our law. And so, if there is anybody who is practicing oral sex or anal sex, please note that what you are doing is against the existing law of this country.

“And so, I will urge any woman or young girl being subjected to any such practice under the guise of heterosexual sex, to know that what they are being asked to do is against the law and must seek help from the Police. Anal sex is unnatural carnal-knowledge, use of sex toys is unnatural carnal-knowledge.”

Strategies To Combat LGBTQ Important

Dan Botwe, a member of parliament representing Okere constituency, indicated that in addition to enacting the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-gay bill in Ghana, it will be necessary to discover strategies to combat the spread of the homosexual lifestyle.

He stated, “Beyond passing the bill, let us exercise internal vigilance,” on July 5 during the parliamentary discussion of the bill’s report from the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee.

Mr. Dan Botwe further exlained that there may come a time when young people may shop for products that are painted with homosexual symbols. To that end, he stated that all parties involved must exercise caution in addition to the bill’s passing.

In his additional remarks, he called homosexuality “total madness” and “a satanic force.” He emphasized, “Let us not underestimate this satanic force.”

The report emphasized the issues brought up by both supporters and opponents of the law. According to the report, those who are opposed to the bill claim that LGBTQ+ activities form part of what the Constitution contemplates under Article 33 (5) about recognition of cerian rights and freedoms that are considered to be inherent in a democracy and which is intended to secure the rights, freedoms, and dignity of the people.

“Consequently, any attempt to prescribe different treatment to different people on the basis of their sexual orientation and gender, will be discriminatory and an affront to Article (17) 1 and (2) of the Constitution.”

The Report from the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee

However, one of the bill’s supporters, Ho West MP, Emmanuel Bedzrah, expressed optimism that parliamentarians from both parties would approve the bill.

“It is our expectation that after today, the consideration will also follow as well. The committee has agreed by consensus that this bill should be passed. And so, there will not be any struggle at all. I would have loved that those who are against it, should be bold enough and tell Ghanaians but you will be surprised that everybody will support this bill.”

Prior to the debate on the Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill, widely known as the Anti-Gay Bill, members of the clergy also visited Parliament to ensure that their representatives in Parliament did the right thing concerning the bill.

The bill aims to outlaw LGBTQ+ and similar acts, as well as propaganda, advocacy, and promotion of LGBTQ and related activities. It also aims to protect and support children, as well as those who are LGBTQ or related activity victims or accusers.

In addition to all of this, the bill on the promotion of appropriate sexual human rights and Ghanaian family values, according to Bernard Ahiafor, the member of parliament for Akatsi South, will not breach any international treaties if it is passed. Mr. Ahiafor further stated that if this bill becomes law, no clause in any international treaty or convention will be broken.
