Gary Al-Smith, an international sports journalist affiliated with Multimedia Ghana Limited, has discovered that criticizing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for Ghanaians’ hardships, frequently results in unwarranted insults from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters.
He expressed this sentiment by stating, “If you are not prepared to be insulted and dragged, don’t criticize Nana Akufo-Addo. It’s Politics and that’s the way it goes.”
Gary further stated that NPP supporters may believe that everything is fine, despite the fact that it is not. He acknowledged the President’s supporters and stated that they most likely believe he is the best President Ghana has ever had. Howbeit, he contrasted his own viewpoint by declaring that he believed the contrary.
While many people are feeling the weight of the President’s “incompetence”, Gary acknowledged that some people may be pleased with the current scenario. He added that he normally avoids mentioning the NPP in his criticisms, instead he focuses on Akufo-Addo. He underscored his persistent position against what he views as the President’s weak governance.
The sports journalist was perplexed by the President’s apparent disconnection from reality and departure from the leadership he vowed to deliver, when elected in 2016.
“He’s been out of touch for a long time. I have almost zero belief in Ghana’s current leadership under Akufo-Addo. They’ve repeatedly shown that they aren’t meeting expectations. The optimism in Akufo-Addo was evident in the historic votes that propelled him to power. If he were to run again, it’s unlikely Ghanaians would support him with the same numbers.”

Moreover, Gary Al-Smith voiced optimism for Ghana’s future, despite his reservations about the current administration. He closed by admitting the insults he receives as a part of the territory, noting that he has grown accustomed to them and is unafraid of them, as long as his close family and friends know he is doing well.
Baker-Vormawor Vows Continue Trolling Politicians
On his side, the convenor of #FixTheCountry, Oliver Mawusi Barker-Vormawor, stated that he will continue to antagonize Ghana’s political class by mocking them with coup detat.
According to the activist, the only thing the 4th Republican Ghanaian politician is terrified of is the possibility of a coup.
“When I threaten legal action: they laugh for they own the Courts. When I threaten demonstrations: they laugh for the own the Police. When I threaten revolution: they laugh for the people are disorganized. When I threaten coup: they arrest me. Why? “Now that I have seen it’s the only thing you are afraid of, I will keep trolling you thieves, with coup, saa, till the people find their feet and revolt! Or till you get BP from looking over your shoulders.”
Baker-Vormawor
Barker-Vormawor is accused of plotting to destabilize the government and has been charged with treason. He was arrested in February 2022 and charged based on a social media post which police investigators said: “contained a clear statement of intent with a possible will to execute a coup in his declaration of intent to subvert the constitution of the Republic”.
West Africa has seen a series of coups in recent years, raising concerns about a regional contagion. However, Ghana’s Defense Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, has categorically denied any fears of a military takeover, noting that the Armed Forces, unlike their counterparts in Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, and, most recently, Niger, are above coups and would rather protect the constitution than subvert it.
