NPP Urges Minority To Use Legal Means To Remove BoG Governor

Paul Twum Barimah, the representative for Dormaa East Constituency, has sharply condemned the Minority caucus’ intentions to picket the Bank of Ghana and demand the resignation of the Governor and his appointees.

On Tuesday, the NDC legislators gave the central bank’s administration a 21-day deadline to stand down in the wake of charges of institutional mismanagement, or the group will swarm the bank’s offices and force them to do so.

However, Paul Twum Barimah, the MP for Dormaa East, stated that the Minority’s demand for the resignation of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his appointees must be made through legal channels.

“It is about time we considered the national interest. If you think somebody has committed a crime or has broken the law, is it about picketing or using the laws? The Bank of Ghana Act clearly states how we can remove a governor, so why aren’t we using that procedure. The Minority also has members on the Financial Committee of Parliament, and they can haul the governor of the bank before Parliament to answer questions.

“So why do we have to go and picket? Will the picketing bring back the law that has been broken? We need to put our country first and let us move away from this politics of picketing for everybody to see. You don’t need to try to use politics at all times because it will not help us as a country.”

NDC MP blows alarm on luxurious BoG Governor Guest House in Takoradi

On the other hand, it has been revealed by the Member of Parliament for Adaklu and Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, Kwame Governs Agbodza that a luxurious guest house has been built for the BoG Governor in Western Regional Capital of Takoradi.

He claimed to have learned about the structure from insiders, referring to it as the “creature comfort of the Governor,” adding that the building was only a year old and had the official name “Central Bank of Ghana Governor Guest House”.

“My unimpeachable sources at the Bank have revealed that the Bank of Ghana has erected an ultra-modern four-storey Guest House Complex somewhere in Takoradi just for the comfort of the BOG Governor. The said creature comfort of the Governor goes by the name “Central Bank of Ghana Governor Guest House” built just within one year. Indeed, evidence from the BOG’s Financial Statement indicates some of the major ongoing projects of the bank to include “remodeling of some regional offices, development of the new Bank of Ghana Head Quarters project”, and “development of a New Guest House project in Tamale.”

He also mentioned that Tamale, the capital of the Northern Regional Region, was having a similar facility built; this expense was noted in the bank’s 2022 annual report.

“What makes this misplaced project an absolute stinker is the fact that this amount is capable of building five (5) of the state of the art Ecobank Head Office in Accra and six(6) of Kempinski Hotel also in Accra. To say that the Bank of Ghana which is the lender of last resort currently finds itself embroiled in a sea of scandal, is an understatement.

“There appears to be no end in sight to the rot that has engulfed the management of the Bank of Ghana. That is why our call for the immediate resignation of the Governor is even more pertinent. The countdown to the resignation of Ernest Addison and his deputies is on, as the day of reckoning fast approaches. All well-meaning Ghanaians must embrace this call for accountability.”

Agbodza’s disclosures follow the Minority’s call for the BoG governor and his deputies to quit this week due to significant losses disclosed in the 2022 budget.
