NDC would have been Majority in Parliament if NPP had not ‘arm twisted’ results- John Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, Former President of the Republic of Ghana

Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to maximize the potential of agriculture and agribusiness and provide critical social and IT infrastructure to stimulate economic growth.

According to him, there is the need for the youth to be supported in the country, especially considering the key role they play in the growth of the economy. He revealed that policy priorities by his next administration will imbue young people with the “knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society”.

Mr Mahama explained that this is the critical Green Skills the youth need to advance a sustainable world.

“I celebrate the creativity, enterprise, and passion of Ghana’s youth. I want to use this occasion to highlight the importance of our young people as the driving force of positive change and innovation. We will maximize the potential of agriculture and agribusiness and provide critical social and IT infrastructure to stimulate economic growth.”

Furthermore, Mr Mahama noted that the youth have been key agents of change and development throughout the nation’s history. As such, he stated that to ensure a brighter future, the next administration must empower a generation of skilled youth, create decent jobs, and support the youth to transform the country, Africa, and the world.

Additionally, he revealed that rising unemployment, increasing cost of living, and lack of opportunities have left many young people feeling hopeless and are testing their sense of patriotism to the limit.

“For me, John Dramani Mahama, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), we are committed to urgently turning this situation around by paving the way for nurturing a generation of skilled youth.”

Prospects of a new NDC administration

Moreover, the former President indicated that a NDC administration will work urgently to equip the youth with the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills needed for a sustainable future. He highlighted that the NDC administration will introduce a 24-hour economy with incentives and tax breaks for manufacturers who will run extra shifts to create more room for employment.

“We will work to ease the burden of taxes imposed by this NPP administration on Ghanaian businesses and investors, which has robbed Ghana of its envious position as one of Africa’s leading destinations for investment. People matter, and by working together, we will build the Ghana we want and put the smiles back on the faces of our young people.”

John Dramani Mahama

Ahead of next year’s elections and in anticipation of a win, the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has made a number of promises in a bid to win over Ghanaians.

Earlier this year, he promised that in his next administration, canoe and fishermen will be exempted from the closed season exercise. He stated that the activities of these groups of fishers do not play a role in the issue of dwindling fish stock in the country.

Speaking to delegates at Mfantseman, a fishing community as part of his campaign tour of the Central region, Mr Mahama revealed that the closed season will be for only trawlers.  Moreover, he iterated that canoe and artisanal fishermen will be exempted as they do not contribute to the dwindling fish stock.

Mr Mahama lamented that the activities of trawlers are affecting canoe and artisanal fishermen who go on sea but return “empty-handed”.

The closed season which is implemented annually, is intended to allow fish spawn to improve Ghana’s dwindling fish stocks.
