WAEC cannot exonerate itself from what is going on- Dr Clement Apaak

Member of Parliament for Bulisa South, Dr Clement Apaak.

Member of parliament for Builsa South, Dr Clement Apaak, has criticized President Akufo-Addo for mismanaging the country, insisting that the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, will fix what the President has badly messed up.

According to him, some decision taken by the President has led the country to its current state of hardship.

Reacting to President Akufo-Addo’s open acknowledgement of the economic crisis the country faces, Dr Apaak revealed that the President has done little to salvage the economy.

Ghana’s Skills Gap Widens Despite Growth in Secondary and Tertiary Education

“You [and the party] are responsible for the sad state of our nation. When JM and many others were calling your attention to the wrong direction you were leading this nation, you responded with sarcasm and innuendos. Ghanaians know JM/NDC will fix what you have so badly messed up.”

Dr Clement Apaak

Speaking to the media during the New Patriotic Party’s Super Delegates Congress, on Saturday, August 26, President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that the party would select a new leader capable of guiding the country out of these challenges.

Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the NPP government has a strong track record and notable achievements that aim at addressing the concerns of Ghanaians.

NPP’s reduction of flagbearer aspirants

Meanwhile, a political marketing strategist, Prof Kobby Mensah, has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should not have reduced the number of candidates participating in its flagbearership race.

Justifying his stance, he noted that it is important for the party to have such numbers for the purpose of democratic processes. He further explained that the decision to limit the number of candidates can cause some groups to misrepresent the outcome to create a perception that a flagbearer has already been chosen.

Moreover, he highlighted that candidates with less stable campaign teams might be more susceptible to the influence, insisting that those who are not strong in terms of their support base for the other candidates could be swayed.

“The tendency is that you’re going to have the results of this being circulated in very unsuspecting areas, telling people that the election has actually been determined or the party has actually determined that a certain candidate is winning, and so why do you want to waste your vote?… That is what makes the work of Alan Kyerematen and co. very difficult because now they have to double down than they would have done if the Super Delegates result wasn’t out.”

Prof. Kobby Mensah

Following the outcome of the NPP’s super delegates conference which saw Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, leading the pack, a parliamentary candidate hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Palgrave Frimpong Boakye-Danquah, has expressed optimism that the party is ready to break the 8.

He revealed that the overwhelming victory of Dr Bawumia and the percentage of that win is an indication that the ruling party will indeed ‘break the 8’.

“… We are breaking the 8-year cycle of political tradition in Ghana, as we are breaking the cycle and truly involving the Dombo tradition. We are setting the records that the grassroots reward hard work, sacrifice, dedication and commitment. It’s not money or age… It’s the future and my personal thanks to delegates for choosing the future.”
