Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, North Tongu member of parliament (MP), has denounced the incidents that were documented at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Super Delegates Conference that just concluded.

The violence, in his opinion, was distressing.

He stated that politics should be uplifting and transformative in a Facebook post, adding that violence in Ghana’s politics should not be tolerated.

“Didn’t know the NPP’s ‘BREAKING THE 8’ has become ‘BREAKING OUR BONES’. Really distressing scenes as Frankenstein monsters devour their own. There must be no place for ‘All-Die-Be-Die’ violence in Ghana’s politics. Our politics should be inspiring & transformational.”

After calling out voters for allegedly openly displaying their ballots to the other delegates on the grounds; an action that violates the party’s provisions and calls for such votes to be rejected, Ali Zakaria, a campaign coordinator on Alan Kyerematen’s team, allegedly came under attacks. Ali Zakaria, however, claimed that he was assaulted by some unnamed delegates, who left him with facial bruises and an enlarged eye, requiring hospitalization.

Yet, the NPP in the Nort East Region in a statement, while downplaying the violence, said the narrative of the incident had been overblown. According to the statement, the confrontation started when the campaign coordinator tried to stop the local youth organizer from placing his “thumb-printed ballot paper into the ballot box.”

Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama has also denounced the assault.

In a Facebook post, the NDC’s flagbearer said, “Acts of violence during what should be a peaceful civic exercise, must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians. Such brutal acts have no place in modern society, especially during an internal contest among persons who belong to the same party and have known each other for many years.”

Ken Agyapong To Be Summoned By Disciplinary Committee

President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia were the targets of threats and accusations allegedly made by Kennedy Agyapong during the Special Delegates Conference on Saturday.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated its determination to call Mr Agyapong before the disciplinary committee.

The two leaders are threatened by Mr. Agyapong, who is also the MP for Assin Central, in a widely shared video, over attacks on his operatives.

He was heard saying, “President Akufo-Addo, I will give you a showdown in this country, I swear to God. Vice President, I will give you a showdown for chasing my agent away., I swear to God. You will hear what will happen here. I swear to God, I will challenge President Akufo-Addo big time.”

It has subsequently been revealed that the outspoken legislator allegedly made those comments in a viral video.

As a result, Mr. Agyapong will be called before the Disciplinary Committee to explain his threats, according to a statement released and signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the NPP.

The party’s disciplinary committee will also call four more people to account for misbehavior.

“Pursuant to Article 10(7)(5) of the NPP Constitution, certain individuals namely: Mr. Raphael Patrick Sarfo, Mr. Charles Dokyi Yaw-Addo, Mr. Musa Sulemana and Mr. Hopeson Yaovi Adorye will be referred to the Party’s Disciplinary Committee. This is a direct response to evidence, including video and photographic materials, which suggests potential violations of the provisions outlined in Article 3(5)(A) of the Party’s Constitution and potential misconduct under Article 4(7).

“Emphasis must also be placed on the fact that Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, pursuant to the above-mentioned constitutional provisions, will also be summoned before the Disciplinary Committee of the Party to provide responses and further details to the accusations and threats he made against certain personalities in a video that has since gone viral on social media and mainstream media.”
