Nigeria’s Ruth Kadiri Threatens Legal Action Against Ghanaian TV Stations

Popular Nigerian actress, Ruth Kadiri

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has issued a stern warning to Ghanaian television stations airing her content without proper authorization.

The actress, who has gained widespread recognition for her roles in various Nollywood films, emphasized the importance of respecting intellectual property rights.

Ruth Kadiri has therefore announced her intentions to pursue legal action against offenders.

She asserted that the unauthorized broadcast of her movies not only infringed upon her rights but also affected the livelihoods of the many people involved in the production process.

In a recent video, the actress shared on her social media platforms, she was very serious about dealing legally with culprits who are involved in the unauthorized broadcasting of her films and series.

She asserted:

“I love the country as a whole but I am very disappointed that a major TV station in Ghana would go on my platform, rip my content apart, show it on TV like they have the license to do that. It is not even just one, not two, not three. I don’t want to put a watermark on my content because I feel like it’s going to make it look baggy. This is the first warning and it is going to be the last one, because the next time, you’re going to hear from my lawyers.

“I beg you, let’s not start dragging ourselves through the mud. I expect so much from you because you know how expensive it is to create content and instead of you buying this content,  you would rather rip it and show it on national TV”.

Ruth Kadiri’s stance received widespread support from her fans and Nollywood colleagues who applauded her for taking a stand against piracy and unauthorized use of creative content.

It can be recalled the actress, Ruth Kadiri recently took to Instagram to share a WhatsApp conversation between her and her colleague Eddie Watson, jokingly expressing her displeasure over his rude behavior towards her.

According to the chat shared, the banter ensued when Eddie criticized Ruth’s profile picture, urging her to change it as he found it scary.

However, Watson’s message did not sit well with Ruth who reacted strongly, vowing to add him to her ‘blocked list’ and questioning his sense of self-importance.

Posting the chat, Ruth issued a stern warning, calling on people to warn Eddie about his rude behavior.

Actress turned filmmaker; Ruth Kadiri revealed how she found purpose and fulfilment by telling stories and turning make-believe scenes into reality, saying her life changed when she started creating stories out of life’s situations.

Kadiri, who celebrated reaching one million YouTube subscribers, said as a female filmmaker in the midst of a handful of movie producers, she has created her visual style shuttling between a make-believe world and reality.

With talks constantly dominating the movie industry about female movie producers pushing the narratives and making history, Kadiri’s works have been rated as top on the list.

But she seems to be focusing on her work rather than resting on her fame as she explained that she would continue to share her mind with the world through the lenses.

According to her, it was not easy stepping into a field that is dominated by men, but she has managed to carve a niche for herself with her content that many of her fans within and outside the country have come to appreciate.

She said:

“I am excited about the journey so far but we have a long way to go with our stories and how we use them to address ills in our society. I look forward to shooting more great movies that will mirror the realities of our lives and proffer solutions to some of them”.
