I Wanted To Please People – Aklerh

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall sensational female musician, Aklerh

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall sensational female musician, Aklerh has disclosed that she found it very difficult to accept herself as a Rastafarian.

She recounted that she wanted to use other names when she was getting into the limelight but back in school people called her a lot of funny names like Jah Baby, Weed Bug, and others because she is a rasta baby, adding that her father is a Rastafarian.

She recalled:

“My dad will come to the school and everybody sees his hair. At that time, he used to work at Adom FM so when he came with the car and the stickers on it, they were like ‘Eii, her father is a Rastafarian”.

She further stated:

“It was somehow. I was a Rasta baby but I wasn’t acting Rasta because I didn’t want to accept myself at that time. It took a long time. I had people-pleasing tendencies. Like I wanted to know that this is what I am, not just being a Rastafarian”.

Aklerh

She revealed that she sat down one day and said to herself that she just didn’t want to be where she found herself but wanted the world to see her for who she was and what God had given to her.

She further disclosed that God gave her the talent to show to the world and not just keep it in her house.

She revealed:

“So one day, Kubolor advised me and said, ‘You don’t know what you have, if you know what you have, you’ll put it to good use’. With that word, I kept building on what I was doing till one day, he had his birthday at Virtual Hub in East Legon, and my now-boss Mr. Nathaniel Amakye came to the event and saw me performing. So after the performance, he was like I want to work with you”.

Aklerh revealed that she has recorded a couple of songs and released her first single ‘Born Rich’ in 2020.

She said her rebellious attitude also propelled her passion for music because she accepts the faith as a born-and-die musician, adding that she believes this is the only thing she has that no one can take away from her.

She said:

“I see my future as very bright because I don’t work alone; I work with spirits. I’m a very spiritual person. Since I stopped pleasing people, looks like my eyes opened to a lot of things in life”.

The sensational female musician, Aklerh continues to shine brightly in Ghana’s vibrant and competitive reggae and dancehall scene.

Known for her powerful vocals and captivating stage presence, she proved her prowess with the release of not one, but two exciting singles: “Run D’Town” and “Money”.

Her ability to seamlessly blend reggae and dancehall vibes while infusing her music with relatable lyrics has endeared her to fans across the nation.

“Run D’Town” is a fiery anthem that showcases Aklerh’s commanding presence. Produced by the talented CashTwo Beats, the track is a perfect blend of catchy melodies and hard-hitting rhythms.

The song’s infectious chorus is bound to have listeners singing along after just one listen. Aklerh’s distinctive voice soars over the production, delivering verses that tell a story of empowerment and seizing control.

On the other hand, “Money”, produced by CaskeysOnit, takes a different limited approach. This track delves into the struggles and aspirations surrounding the need to have one’s freedom.

Aklerh’s emotive delivery brings to life the lyrics that reflect the universal desire for success and prosperity. The track’s laid-back yet captivating beat complements her vocals perfectly, creating a sonic experience that is soothing.

Her consistency in delivering exceptional music has solidified her place as undoubtedly Ghana’s Dancehall Queen in recent times.

Her unique sound, meaningful lyrics, and dynamic performances are a testament to her dedication and artistry.
