Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel Becomes The 57th  NUGS President

The National Union of Ghanaian Students held a handing-over ceremony to swear in its executives for the 2023/24 NUGS Year at GNAT Hall in Accra over the weekend.

The ceremony was attended by high-profile dignitaries including the Minister of Education, Honorable Yaw Osei-Adutwum, the Deputy Director of Communications at the Office of the President, Jefferson Sackey, and the Deputy National Youth Organizer of the ruling party, Isaac Jay Hyde among others.

The glamour event saw the President Mr. Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel including eight elected and seven appointed officers sworn in to office to steer the affairs of the over 12 million Ghanaian students both at home and abroad. It was a beautiful transition from the Dennis Appiah Larbi Ampofo administration to the Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel administration.

The immediate past President of the National Union, Mr. Dennis Appiah Larbi-Ampofo thanked Ghanaian students for the honour done him to serve the Union in the capacity of President and charged the new administration to pursue excellence in the interest of the welfare of Ghanaian students.

57th NUGS Administration Commitment To Development

In delivering his inaugural speech, the 57th President of the National Union of Ghanaian Students, Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel emphasized the commitment of his administration to development in the interest of the over 12 million Ghanaian students.

Mr. Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel indicated that he envisions a NUGS, where every voice is heard, where every student is represented, and where diversity is celebrated as its strength. He therefore assures all members of NUGS, including the Private Universities’ Block, Teacher Trainees’ Block, Universities’ Association Block, and Regional SRCs among others of his vision to bring NUGS to their doorstep so that they can also have a direct impact on the Union.

 “Development, in all its forms, is not just a goal; it is our mission. It is a promise to every one of you that, during our tenure, NUGS will be unwaveringly committed to your growth, empowerment, and progress. I strongly believe that this mission resonates with that of every elected executive”

He also pledged his commitment to strong advocacy which is at the heart of the Union that would ameliorate the various challenges Ghanaian Students all over the globe face.

He therefore calls on all stakeholders of NUGS, the presidency, the Ministry of Education, NGOs, Private individuals, corporate entities and all government agencies who have contributed meaningfully to the Union’s growth and development to keep supporting the Union, especially under his leadership for a successful administration.

In his address, the Minister of Education reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing education and working collaboratively with student organizations to improve the quality of education in Ghana.

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) was formed in the year 1962 and has since had the central aim of protecting the interest of all Ghanaian students both at home and abroad.

As such, the union has in successive years taken up various initiatives, projects and programs to ensure that the student life and experiences for the youth in the country a pleasant. Currently, the Union is building a six-unit classroom block at the remote village of Kasena Nankana in the Upper East Region of Ghana.

The union is a democratic, non-partisan and progressive mass movement of students, both in Ghana and abroad, championing a common course. It is also committed to advocating to inculcate a high degree of patriotism and nationalism in students to prepare them adequately for the future of the country.
