FixTheCountry Movement Condemns Counter #OccupyJulorbiHouse Protest In London

The FixTheCountry Movement, a non-partisan, non-aligned civic movement by Ghanaian youths for Ghana has expressed its disappointment by the decision of some other Ghanaians to counter the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest to challenge the one organised by other fellow Ghanaians who are calling on the leadership of Ghana to #FixTheCountry.

The group accused Mr Hamilton who is leading the counter-demonstration of displaying hypocrisy and lack of patriotism towards his mother country.

“We’ve watched with great pain as our fellow Ghanaians in London have started a counter #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest to challenge the one organised by our fellow Ghanaians who are calling on our leadership to #FixTheCountry. We want to ask Mr Hamilton, the man leading the counter-demonstration that, what is he doing in someone else’s land if he feels all is well back home?”

#FixThe Country

According to the group, it is surprising that Mr Hamilton is trying to impede the efforts of those calling on leadership to structure the country well to avoid the phenomenon of many Ghanaians travelling outside the country to seek greener pastures.

“Is this his best understanding of the word PATRIOTIC contained in the name of the NPP?”

The group also indicated that the greatest betrayal any state can suffer is when its people put political parties first before the country.

According to Oliver Barker Vormawor, the Lead Convener of the group, similar incident happened when he organized a similar protest back in 2021, a situation he described as deliberate and diversionary.

“In July 2021, I led a FixTheCountry protest in London at the Ghana High Commission. A couple of days before the protest, the Police had called that they had picked up intelligence that the High Commission had engaged pro-government, counter-demonstrators. The Police said not to worry and that they will protect us”.

He therefore accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of orchestrating the counter-protest in London similarly to what it did in 2021.

“And just us with today’s #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest I see that the same group led by the NPP branch secretary is back”.

Ghanaians In London Protest At Ghana’s High Commission Over Poor Governance

On Friday, September 29, some Ghanaians in the United Kingdom gathered outside the Ghana High Commission in London to express their worries about the state of governance and the economic crisis.

A little over 100 impassioned people gathered outside the diplomatic building to share their opinions, each carrying a sign with a different message.

These protesters were unwavering in their conviction that President Akufo-Addo administration had failed to adequately address the nation’s most pressing problems.

Meanwhile, another group of Ghanaians, who appeared to be in support of the ruling administration, appeared amid the orderly protest. They created a contentious stalemate between proponents of change and defenders of the status quo.

The pro-government group charged the protesters with mischief and implied that they were trying to destroy the government’s reputation.
