I Am Not An Angel But I Have The Drive – Dr. Okoe Boye

Dr. Okoe Boye

The former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency and Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has stated that, although he is not an angel, he has the drive and believes that Ghana could develop as foreign countries have.

Defending his integrity and commitment to his active participation in the development of his constituency and Ghana at large, Dr. Okoe Boye cited how he did not corrupt himself with funds he raised from various sponsors of the newly built Greater Accra’s biggest astroturf in his constituency.

He recounted how he waited at various offices of CEOs and other organizations to raise money solely in the interest of his people.

“I am not an angel but I have a drive and I believe that whatever is happening in foreign countries can be done. Although McDan was the chief sponsor of the project, there were occasions when I visited CEOs and other organizations’ offices for hours and asked them if they could put GHS 1 million into this [project.”

Dr. Okoe Boye

According to the former Member of Parliament for the constituency, others would have been quick to seize the opportunity to amass the sponsorship he raised for personal interest.

Dr. Okoe Boye believes that the core bile of Ghana’s development is poor leadership.

“The problem is leadership. There are Ghanaians abroad who live well under good working conditions. That is because they have leadership.”

Dr. Okoe Boye

He put across that, from his political experience, there are two kinds of people in politics. These are those for impact and those for the people and further identifies the impact of the choice of the masses between these two options.

“In politics there are two kinds of people. Those who come for an impact and those who come with interests. If those with interest win, there will be no change. If you are in for impact, you look for the solution.”

Dr. Okoe Boye

Hence, Dr. Okoe Boye cautioned members of the constituency to watch out for people who join politics for their personal interests and make the right choice.

In addition, the former Member o Parliament for the constituency strongly expressed his belief that every community in Ghana could develop its road if assemblies are resourced to undertake road contracts with strict rules to prevent corruption

He also believes that will change the entire road infrastructure across the breadth and lengths of the country.

Likening the prospects of talented footballers in his constituency to that of Christiano Ronald, he shares his excitement at the impact he is playing within the constituency even though he is not their MP.

“I am happy that most people’s lives will change because of us. And that is why we are in politics and leadership to try and contribute to change somebody’s life. If you are able to do that, it means you are getting there.”

Dr. Okoe Boye

Also, he critiqued the absence of the current MP of the constituency, Benjamin Ayiku Nartey of the New Democratic Congress, and espoused his hopes that the people in the constituency will make the right choice with his works

“Our MP lives outside this constituency, so when we have issues we have to send it through WhatsApp before she knows.”

Dr. Okoe Boye

He believes that they can do a lot for their communities within the constituency and reaffirmed his commitment to aid in the progress of his constituency. He thus charged his constituents to come on board to drive the development they expect.
