The Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has emphasized that the BOG Demonstration is a national call than partisan politics as usual.

He argued that the issues the demonstration sought to address affected all Ghanaians hence the call on all Ghanaians to join the protest.

He added that, the movement, even though is a political one, is not the usual partisan politics.

“Even though this is a political movement, the movement is not about everyday partisan politics. Look, you have a central bank that targeted to bring inflation down to 8% because they know the benefits that it will bring to the economy. And when the economy gets better and inflation is at 8% the benefits will not only inure to CPP or NDC so that is not political.”

Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini

He further critiqued the bank for its dereliction of duties and blamed the governor and deputies for the economic devastation.

“But the same central bank targeting 8%, has through its current behaviors like printing 45 billion for a government in one year created a situation where inflation is above 40%.

“Through their recklessness, they took it beyond 40% and now they are targeting 29%. If that is not a failure that should provoke anybody to demand the resignation of the Bank of Ghana Governor and his Deputies, not on partisan or political lenses, then I wonder what else will provoke anybody to ask for what is better in this life.”

Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini

He stated that, the Bank of Ghana is required by law to advise the Finance Minister and the government against borrowing. The Governor is required to provide a report and evaluate the risk of the country’s borrowing. Therefore, if the Finance Minister engaged in a borrowing binge during that period and borrowed close to USD 8 billion from the capital markets, he (Governor) is equally responsible.

According the legislator, the country’s debt increased by GHS 122. 6 billion to GHS 569.3 billion over the last six to seven years. He quizzed the speed with which the country’s debt grew and urged citizens to hold the Governor and his deputies accountable for the bank’s failure to hold the Finance Minister accountable, and refusal to restrain his reckless borrowing.

He also explained that, when the capital markets opted against lending to the government after learning about the country’s vulnerability, the Bank of Ghana played the fool and produced money so that the government could continue spending carelessly.

Sammy Gyamfi Leads Protestors On Route

Meanwhile, protesters of #OccupyBoGProtest have been directed to follow the lead of the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi on the route.

This instruction was given by the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia while addressing protesters ahead of the procession to the offices of the Central Bank.

According to the Chairman, Tuesday’s march is to ensure that the leadership of the Minority gets a face-to-face meet-up with the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Yedu Kwamina Addision, to demand his resignation.

“If you allow a security zone to be a haven for criminals, we have the right to declare that place a crime scene.”

Asiedu Nketia

He expressed the resolve of the leadership of the Minority, which is leading the protest, to march to the offices of the Central Bank.

The Chairman said the police should not attempt to stop them from marching to the Bank of Ghana to present their petition to Dr. Addison. He said theirs is a peaceful protest and if anything untoward happens, the police will be blamed.
