The Minority Caucus in Parliament has cautioned to show the Governor of the central bank ‘what hooligans do’ after the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison described participants of the OccupyBOGProtest as ‘hooligans’.

In an interview with the media on Thursday, October 5, Honorable Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, denounced Dr. Addison’s reaction and charged him with being conceited and disrespectful to the Minority Caucus in Parliament and the National Democratic Congress leadership.

According to Mr Ayariga, Dr. Addison’s impolite remark, in his opinion, is a blatant display of exasperation from a governor who is inexperienced and unable to effectively run the Central Bank’s activities.

The Bawku Central MP again added that the Minority Group will meet with the leadership of the National Democratic Congress to decide the next line of action to hold the governor accountable for his irresponsible conduct.

“I, Mahama Ayariga, I am saying that he will see what hooligans do, I don’t know what my colleagues Minority MPs will think but when we meet we will discuss and let you know. But I’m sure that having called us hooligans, he will get a response of hooligans.”

Minority Caucus To Force BOG Governor Out Of Office

Meanwhile, the Minority Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza has hit back at the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison over his comments not to resign from his post despite several calls from opposition parties.

The Member of Parliament for the Adaklu constituency said he believes the Governor of the central bank was being shielded hence his remarks.

He warned that the Minority Caucus in Parliament will as soon as possible ensure the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr Ernest Addison be held accountable and responsible for his actions.

“He’s a protected arrogant thief. His day to face justice will surely come,”

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana in an interview with international business website described the protest by the Minority Caucus in Parliament and the National Democratic Congress as ‘completely unnecessary’.

According to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, the Minority in parliament have many ways to express its concerns in democratic societies and  not through demonstrations in the streets as ‘hooligans’ in the manner it did in the #OccupyBoGProtest.

On Tuesday October 3 2023, the Minority Caucus in Parliament and the National Democratic Congress in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations, Progressive Forces and other well-meaning Ghanaians held  the  #OccupyBOGProtest to protest what they describe as the bad management of the Central Bank by Governor and his two Deputy Governors.

The protestors accused Dr. Ernest Addison and his two deputies of gross mismanagement of the central bank, citing the over GHc60 billion loss by the Bank of Ghana as the basis for their call for their resignations.
